Our packaging: a responsible choice

In June 2023, NIO Cocktails commissioned a recent life cycle analysis (LCA) report which was conducted by Ecochain Technologies B.V. , a highly specialised, external and independent partner. The objective was to evaluate the environmental impact of three types of packaging that can be used by NIO Cocktails.
They examined the current packaging made of FSC paper, the internal polypropylene pouch and the addition of new potential packaging, i.e. a glass bottle of the same format. All the different phases of the product life cycle were taken into consideration, from the production of materials, to the elimination of waste right up to delivery to the end consumer.
The results show that the negative environmental impact of glass bottles, overall, is significantly higher than our current packaging in almost every category examined.
The main sources of impact for NIO's current packaging include paper production, paper printing, polypropylene plastic production and paper recycling. The main sources of impact for glass bottles is the production process characterised by a high energy requirement and a huge consumption of water, transport with a serious weight-volume ratio and re-melting.
