A story about the wine I’ve dedicated my life to

Can I have just a couple of minutes of your time?
I’d love to share with you a very special red. My pride and joy.
It’s called Château La Clarière. A fine Bordeaux I’ve been making, and that our customers having been enjoying, for over 40 years now.
It started when I got a call from my old mentor. Would I be interested in buying his estate, and proving to the world what we both already knew? ...
That the wines of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux can be as fine as any of the Grands Cru Classé from next door in prestigious Saint-Émilion.
I’d long loved his wines, and had no doubt they could be. So I took the plunge.
And when I say the estate is next door, I mean RIGHT next door. Castillon lies on that most famous limestone ridge, on Bordeaux’s ‘Right Bank’, literally one metre across from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé boundary.
Depending on how spritely you were feeling, you cross the line in one jump!
It’s a story I’ve seen repeated the world over.
Taking the time to look past the big, well-established names can yield some extraordinary finds. And we’ve always done our best to get in early and pass along these discoveries to you before prices go up.
Indeed, in the last decade Castillon’s vineyard prices have quadrupled as many big-name producers have cottoned on to the value in the area.
I’m talking Stéphane Derenoncourt, Stephan Van Neipperg, Jean-Luc Thunevin. Google their names and you’ll see the prices their wines command.
But La Clarière was there first, and we’ve firmly led the way in the area over the last 40 years. We were first to:
* Green harvest – to chop off the unripe bunches – to reduce yield and concentrate flavour (the locals thought we were mad).
* Research soil health with a top viticultural consultant, planting grass and mooli radish to break up the soil.
* Use expensive new French oak barrels to mature the wines properly and impart really delicious layers of extra flavour.
** DID YOU KNOW?
------------------------------------------------------------
The prized limestone ridge under the very best properties of Saint-Émilion and Castillon is what gives these wines real freshness, as well as their silky texture.

We’ve been very lucky over the years to enjoy a fair amount of international recognition too.
Leading wine publication Decanter Magazine calls Château La Clarière “the leading estate in Castillon”.
It’s also earned 80+ Gold medals and four top Trophies.
But there’s no way we could have achieved such success without the help and support of customers. There are even a few out there who have bought every vintage since the first, the 1986!
So the wine I would love for you to try today, is the latest vintage of that same claret I’ve dedicated my life to ...
It’s from those prime sun-baked Castillon slopes that produce dense, concentrated, very delicious claret.
Every vintage is always a little different, but you always get more flavours in a glass of La Clarière than you do in a whole bottle of most wines. Our Haut-Brion trained winemaker, Jean-Marc (pictured above), makes sure of it.
Every sip is rich with flavour, and really velvety. You’ve ripe dark fruits like cassis and plum, leading to pepper, tobacco, and oak spice thanks to patient ageing in our best barrels.
I offer it to you today at a price that’s five times less than what they charge at the château just next door. And, I think, it’s just as good. If not better.
Fancy a tour of the château? Just click here
for a short video showing you around the vineyards, the cellar, and the beautiful surrounding landscape.
Thanks in advance for giving my pride-and-joy red a try.
