Pharmacies can now offer treatment for more conditions

image

Going to your local pharmacy offers an easy and convenient way to get clinical advice on minor health concerns. Now community pharmacies can offer treatment for seven common conditions without patients needing to see a GP, as part of a major transformation in the way the NHS delivers care.

Highly trained pharmacists at more than nine in ten pharmacies can now assess and treat patients for earache, impetigo, infected insect bites, shingles, sinusitis, sore throat, and urinary tract infections (UTIs) for women aged 16-64 – without the need for a GP appointment or prescription.

Learn more about how community pharmacies can help.

Let’s talk about your experiences of NHS health and care

image

NHS Sussex is inviting everyone living in Sussex to take part in their survey, which will help the NHS to understand how people are feeling about health and care services. The information gathered will support improvements in the delivery of key services, including urgent care, emergency care and primary care, which includes GP surgeries and dentists.

It takes around 20 minutes to complete and asks about your experiences of current services, what’s working well and where further improvements could be made. The survey closes on Friday 8 March.

Take part in the survey today.

The Sussex Surgical Centre is coming soon to Eastbourne

image

The name of the new elective surgical facility at Eastbourne District General Hospital has now been formally announced as the ‘Sussex Surgical Centre’. The name had been chosen after a competition among East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust staff.

Work on the elective surgical hub is planned to be completed in Spring 2025. The project will deliver a modern, purpose-built day surgery unit which will include a pre-assessment area, four theatres, admission, recovery and discharge space as well as support facilities. It will offer Sussex residents the opportunity to have their day surgery procedure performed more quickly and in a purpose-built environment.

British Sign Language interpreting service launched

People in East Sussex can now contact the County Council using British Sign Language (BSL).

East Sussex County Council has launched an initial six-month trial of the BSL interpreting service, SignLive, to ensure more residents can access the help and support they need.

SignLive enables people to connect with an interpreter via a video call who will then call the council and relay the conversation between BSL and English. Calling the council using SignLive is free, and the service can be accessed via a desktop computer or laptop with a webcam, microphone and speakers, or via an app on a smartphone or tablet.

Age Without Limits: new campaign to tackle ageism

image

From “having a senior moment” to “looking good for your age”, these kinds of comments can slip into everyday conversations, often unnoticed. Although some people may see this as harmless, for many this kind of casual ageism can have a detrimental effect.

With almost half of East Sussex residents 50 years old and over, and half of adults surveyed in England having experienced age discrimination in the last year, it’s a big deal. A new campaign highlighting the issues of ageism is challenging everybody to question the way they think about ageing – and is encouraging you to take part.
