BEAM to launch with Family Festival tomorrow!

BEAM, Hertford’s new multi-purpose arts venue, will open its doors tomorrow, on Friday, 23 August, with a packed bank holiday weekend of theatre, cinema and events for the whole family.

BEAM’s Family Festival, supported by an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant, will run over the bank holiday weekend, with activities including theatre and story-telling sessions, live music, Lego building and more. This will be followed by a week of family-focused shows to round off the school holidays.  

In addition to the exciting programme coming to the main auditorium this autumn, BEAM’s three new bespoke cinema screens will begin showing first release films from Wednesday to Sunday each week, from Friday, 23 August.

There something for everyone in our exciting new arts fest - Arts in East Herts - which will run through  September and October across our district. 

The Arts in East Herts programme provides all the latest on the schedule of events - from bell-ringing, theatre arts and candlemaking through to circus skills, printmaking and singing - and much more! There will be something on offer virtually every day. A fantastic opportunity to try something new!

Become a Childminder Skills Bootcamp

The Early Years team at Hertfordshire County Council are working in partnership with Oaklands College to provide a new government-funded skills bootcamp, which is starting in September, for those wishing to become an Ofsted registered Childminder.

The course runs for a period of 12 weeks and provides the essential training, knowledge and skills required to get started.

Skills bootcamps offer flexible training to fit around current work/life commitments. Learners can then go on to access further accredited qualifications in childcare, or use the skills bootcamps to shorten the length of an early years apprenticeship.

Celebration event at Castle Park in Bishop's Stortford 

Save the date for the official opening of Castle Park, Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday, 1 September from 12 noon - 5pm.

This will celebrate the completion of the major redevelopment of Castle Gardens and Sworders Field, which has funded by grants from the National Lottery Heritage and Community Funds. It's been a collaboration between East Herts District Council and Bishop’s Stortford Town Council, supported by Hertfordshire County Council’s Countryside Management Service (CMS).

The free event will also celebrate heritage, conservation and recreation across the park.

Activities will include a Norman battle re-enactment, the chance to visit a living medieval encampment, archery and axe throwing, falconry displays and a skate jam with pro-skater displays and teaching sessions.

Additionally, conservation and wildlife groups will showcase the work they have been doing to improve the natural habitat of the River Stort.

Bank holiday bin collections

There's a bank holiday on Monday, 26 August that will affect our usual waste collection schedule.

Our schedule will be affected from the bank holiday until Saturday, 31 August. Please consult our graphic to find out your amended collection day.

Drop-in Sessions


Healthy Hub East Herts is running drop-in sessions across the district for residents to pop in for FREE help and advice about anything they would like support with. 

The next Healthy Hub sessions will take place at Ware Library on Friday, 23 August between 10am and 12pm and at Bishop's Stortford Library on Thursday, 29 August between 12pm and 2pm.

 
In addition, you can visit us in person in Hertford every Tuesday and Friday between 9am and 4pm.  We'll be at the Skills & Learning Centre, 67 Fore street, Hertford SG14 1AL.

Drop-in Sessions


Supporting Links is a not-for-profit organisation that supports parents across Hertfordshire with a range of family courses and challenges that parenting can throw up. These are up to 10 online and in-person courses are starting in September and November.

Each course runs over 6 weekly sessions and is offered FREE of charge to parents thanks to funding from Herts County Council.

Age UK 10 - 3 Clubs in East Hertfordshire


Age UK Hertfordshire's 10 - 3 clubs offer the chance to socialise, enjoy a hot lunch, build new friendships and have fun!

There are spaces for new members to join the local 10 - 3 club at Folly View Communal Lounge in Stanstead Abbotts.
