Call for garden waste renewals

If you subscribe to our garden waste service, please ensure that you renew your subscription by Monday, 25 March so that there is no disruption to your service.

If you are considering joining the scheme, now is a good time to do so because it runs from the beginning of April to the end of March. Although you can join the scheme at any time during the year, the price is the same, irrespective of whether your sign up now or later in the year - so it's better value for money to join now.

#LoveFoodHateWaste

This week is Food Waste Action Week, an annual campaign which aims to help us all reduce food waste

The statistics are shocking: 4.7 million tonnes of edible food is thrown away each year by UK households, 25% of which is the result of us cooking or serving too much. Food waste costs UK households £4.9 billion each year.

#LoveFoodHateWaste has produced a great video in which Gino D'Acampo gives tips on how to reduce your food waste - for instance, buying loose fruit and veg so that you only buy what you need.

Why the MMR is important

The MMR vaccine protects children against measles which is a highly contagious, airborne infection that primarily targets the respiratory system.

Measles cases and deaths have reduced since the introduction of the measles vaccine in 1963, with an estimated 17.1 million deaths due to measles avoided since 2000. However, since October last year, there have been 521 confirmed cases reported in England. Most of these cases are unvaccinated.

The MMR vaccine provides the safest and most effective protection against measles, mumps and rubella with two doses of the MMR providing long-lasting protection. It can be given at any age.
