Your Tree, Our Future!

Your Tree Our Future, delivered in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, is back for 2024.

The scheme allows East Herts residents to claim free trees chosen from eight species which are suited to Hertfordshire’s geography and climate. You can claim up to five individual trees, or a pack made up of 36 trees to form a hedgerow.

We have a set number of trees available for East Herts which will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. If you don’t manage to claim any trees this year, the scheme will be repeated in 2025.

Tree planting is a great way to enhance our natural environment and tackle climate change by reducing carbon in the atmosphere. They also help tackle air pollution and have positive benefits for our physical and mental health.

Grass cutting in East Herts

Due to the warm and wet weather, the grass and vegetation on the highway and across the district is growing at unprecedented rate. Consequently, we are aware that the grass on some verges are longer than we would like it to be at present.

Please also note that cutting grass when long does not always leave the desired finish, and you may see grass clippings/clumps/arisings being dropped from the mowers as they move from verge to verge.

Our crews are working as fast as they can to keep up and manage the situation - so please bear with us. Should any verges and grassed areas become too wet and/or waterlogged, these areas may have to be left uncut until they are dry, as to prevent verge damage.

Supporting our local markets

We're about to appoint a Markets Manager to spearhead the development of the markets which take place on a weekly basis in Hertford and Ware.
  • The Charter market (every Saturday) and Farmers Market (second Saturday of the month) in Hertford
  • The Tuesday market in Ware
In addition to increasing footfall and encouraging people to buy local, we aim to attract new traders and increase the range of produce and products on offer.

Other markets take place across East Herts on a regular basis, managed by their Town or Parish Council. These include Charter markets in Bishop's Stortford (Thursday and Saturday) and Buntingford (Monday).
