** D-Day commemorated across East Herts
------------------------------------------------------------
The 80th anniversary of D-Day was commemorated across East Herts last Thursday with events taking place in many of our towns and villages.
East Herts Council joined forces with Bishop's Stortford Town Council and the Bishop's Stortford branch of the Royal British Legion to mark the anniversary in the town's Castle Park.
Bell ringers from St Michael's Church joined the nation's Ringing for Peace, then there was free live music on Sworders Field, courtesy of vintage singing trio, The Rockabellas and Bishop's Stortford Town Band.
Following poetry readings by local school children in the recently re-planted Memorial Garden, the formal part of the evening was led by the Bishop's Stortford town’s branch of the Royal British Legion. This comprised an Act of Remembrance followed by the International Tribute, beacon lighting and the laying of wreaths.

** Dig for Bishop's Stortford!
------------------------------------------------------------
The Friends of Castle Park Archaeology Group is holding an open evening next Tuesday, 18 June to share information about the community dig which will take place at Castle Park from 8-19 July (Monday to Friday). This will take place from 7pm-9pm at the Markwell Studio, the recently opened community space on the edge of the park.
This will be an opportunity to hear out about what's been found during previous digs, the objectives for this one and, of course, the volunteering opportunities. These can range from a few hours to a few days.
This will be the fourth community dig at Castle Park and will be supported by professionals from Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA). There will be an archaeology open day on Sunday, 14 July when the dig will be live. This will be a chance to come along and see what happening.
