What do I do with… glass?
Glass is a wonderful material for recycling as it can be melted down and made into more glass products without the quality reducing.
There are two ways to recycle your glass in East Hampshire:
At home
We collect glass bottles and jars (no corks or lids please) from homes every four weeks in a 38 litre box. If you regularly fill your box, you can have more than one.
Our crews empty the boxes by hand – they pick up around 3,500 boxes each week. The most your box should weigh is 5.5kg.
Over-filling your box could injure a crew member and makes it more likely that a bottle might fall on the floor and smash during collection.
We can’t take Pyrex, light bulbs, mirrors or broken glass. Any broken glass should be safely wrapped up and put in your green (refuse) bin.
Please don’t put glass in your recycling (black) bin.
Bottle banks
There are also bottle banks across the district [
] if you have too many bottles to fit in your box.
If the bottle bank is full, please find another one. Leaving bottles on the floor can be dangerous for other people, crews and wildlife and you could be fined if you’re caught doing it.

It would be smashing if you could help spread the word!
