Big news from East Hampshire District Council
Proud to be a forces-friendly employer
As an armed forces friendly organisation, East Hampshire District Council recognises the contribution and sacrifice made by the Armed Forces Community and the unique skills and attributes they bring to the council and our communities.

Armed Forces Covenant
Supporting our armed forces community is a priority for the council and we are proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
We've also enrolled in the Defence Employers Recognition Scheme, which acknowledges the contribution and value the reserve forces and ex-armed forces personnel bring to our local communities and to the workplace.
EHDC has a range of initiatives in place that support veterans including a guaranteed interview scheme. As an inclusive employer, we aim to give all members of staff a positive employment experience, whilst offering opportunities to gain skills and experience.
In 2023 we adopted a new policy which offers additional support to reservists during their training and mobilisation commitments. It covers training, time off, mobilisation, pay, annual leave, pension, keeping in touch and returning to work.
Our Armed Forces Champion, and ex-serviceman, Councillor Phil Shaw, said,
"As a Royal Navy veteran with 24 years service, the Armed Forces Community is close to my heart, and I'm delighted that EHDC has pledged its support by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
"When you leave the forces, it can be very daunting because you don’t realise you have the skills many organisations are looking for.
"The council provides a wide range of services, with a variety of different roles where ex-service personnel could use their expertise and experience to forge a successful career.
"People with a services background are disciplined, motivated and have excellent communication skills. I’d encourage anyone looking for a new role to see what opportunities the council has to offer."
Opportunities for funding
EHDC has a number of funding streams and we encourage applications from the Royal British Legion, cadets and other charities working in East Hampshire. For more information please contact our armed forces officers.
