Still nifty at fifty
East Hampshire District Council celebrates 50 years
This year is a golden one for EHDC as it marks the 50th anniversary of its inauguration in 1974.
The Local Government Act 1972 brought together four rural and urban councils to form East Hampshire District Council and the introduction of the council structure we have today.
For half a century EHDC has made a huge contribution to the lives of residents, visitors and businesses in East Hampshire.
The anniversary gives us an opportunity to celebrate, recognise and highlight the important contribution EHDC has made to our communities over the years, and showcase the value of local government.
EHDC Leader, Councillor Richard Millard, said: “We are proud to have served this district for 50 years and look forward to the next 50, as we rise to the challenge, pioneer new ways of working and continue to deliver high-quality services to our residents."
To mark the moment we have created a special ‘50’ logo to use during 2024.

Councillor grants for community groups – apply now!
Clubs and groups across East Hampshire can apply for a grant from their local councillor.
Each district councillor has a £3,500 funding pot to support not-for-profit organisations and worthy causes in their own ward.
Community groups have until the end of February 2025 to apply for a grant of up to £1,000 per councillor for projects with a charitable goal, or one which benefits the local community.
These grants are perfect for helping out local communities, especially smaller groups that might not know what grants are available.
Councillors may also 'club together' to give a project more, as long as the criteria is met. Alton cyclists have a safe place to lock up their bikes [
