Two unsightly log stores, built in front of a gorgeous Grade 2 listed Tudor-era cottage in Horndean, were deemed to be damaging the visual beauty of the building.
A government-appointed planning inspector ruled on the case and agreed with the council’s view that they affected the character of the period property. The owner now has until the middle of April to remove the outbuildings from the front garden or he will be committing a criminal offence.
Cllr Angela Glass said the council is determined to protect the historical qualities of East Hampshire.
She said: “EHDC is committed to protecting and preserving the heritage and historical buildings within its district and this appeal decision by the government appeal inspectors is a sensible and welcomed decision.”
Cllr Sara Schillemore, the councillor for Horndean Catherington, said: “The log stores to the front of the property have been a problem for some time, obscuring the view of a trio of beautiful early Tudor, timber built, thatched cottages.
“I am very pleased to have this issue resolved and look forward to their early removal.”
