Extra time for our car park permit holders

Our short stay permits can now be used in most of our parks for up to 3 hours a day, increasing from the previous 2-hour limit. This gives more time to get things done and offers more value for money.

Whether it’s regular visits to the surgery, shopping, checking in on a family member, taking the children to activities, or walking the dog, £100s can be saved over the year.

Also find out more about our current trial reduction of parking charges in some of our car parks.

July work to prevent pot holes

As part of our ongoing maintenance programme, a number of roads in the area are being given an early intervention to seal against water and prevent pot holes.

Known as road preservation, an asphalt liquid is sprayed onto the surface to seal small cracks, preventing water from causing more damage.

Our contractor RMS (Road Maintenance Services Ltd) is carrying out the work.

Dorset children get active in national competition
School children in Dorset made an incredible 18,268 journeys to school by foot, scooter, bicycle or wheelchair in this year’s Big Walk and Wheel challenge.

The Big Walk and Wheel is the UK’s largest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to school challenge.  It inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality in their neighbourhood, and better understand the positive impact these changes can have on their environment.

Delivered by the active travel charity Sustrans, the challenge is open to all primary and secondary schools.

Corroded Wimborne footbridge to be replaced

A popular footbridge to the north of Allenview car park, Wimborne is to be replaced during the 2024 school summer holidays.

Routine inspections found corrosion on the underside of the bridge used by students of the nearby Allenbourn Middle School. Although the corrosion is not a risk to the stability of the bridge, it does require attention.

Due to limited access, it is not possible to undertake the required works in situ. Therefore, the bridge will be removed and a new, more easily maintained, footbridge put in its place. The old bridge will be refurbished offsite so it can be reused elsewhere.
