Dorset Council has launched a free Digital Leadership training programme for local businesses, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Running from September to early 2025 by training provider Cosmic, this programme would be ideal for CEOs, directors, managers, and digital champions across all industries. The training will be online and aims to help businesses craft a future-proof strategy with cutting-edge digital tools.
 
It will also help them to enhance productivity using digital platforms, foster a culture of experimentation and innovation, learn more about AI, delve into data decision-making, and assist with horizon scanning for future opportunities.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) recognises there may be a concern by business owners to increase security measures to protect their premises after recent events.

Responsible Persons should review their fire risk assessment if any changes are made to the premises that will have an impact on any fire safety measures within it.

With training and a DBS check provided, you’ll be equipped to challenge inappropriate behaviour safely, offer safe havens, and connect those needing support services. The Pineapple Project is all about creating safer environments through community involvement.

Climate-Smart Agriculture Partnership funding competition

Apply for up to £30,000 to deliver a Scoping Project to build trilateral networks and identify opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing to promote climate-smart agriculture for sustainable food production systems in Ghana and Nigeria.

Projects will be led by UK-based universities or research and technology organisations (RTOs), and Scoping Projects will build trilateral networks between the UK, Brazil and Africa (Ghana and Nigeria). Each Scoping Project will focus on a specific topic area identified as a priority for international collaboration. Scoping Projects will:
  • Build diverse networks of stakeholders across the UK, Brazil, Ghana and Nigeria to develop productive research and innovation partnerships and relationships
  • Identify opportunities to collaboratively transfer, develop, commercialise, adopt and scale technologies to promote climate-smart agriculture in Ghana or Nigeria.

New sustainability case studies launched for business

VisitEngland has launched a new series of case studies of English tourism businesses that have been taking a lead in sustainability, and seeing real benefits to their business as a result.

The Better Business video case studies feature examples from across the country, from museums to caravan parks to outdoor activities. They were produced in collaboration with The Travel Foundation and Green Traveller.

The Smart Manufacturing Data Hub (SMDH) supports small and medium-sized manufacturers to become more competitive by harnessing the power of data.

The SMDH Program offers up to five digital sensor solutions that are fully funded. The program aims to support businesses in leveraging sensor data to enhance their operations and drive innovation. They are providing advanced monitoring solutions, including: -

  • Air quality monitors
  • Temperature monitors
  • Job trackers
  • Power monitors
  • Air particle monitors.

These tools are designed to enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and provide valuable insights to optimise manufacturing processes.

The latest Dorset LEP funded programme in partnership with SWMAS – Defence & Security Supply Chain Programme - is now live.
 
The defence sector is rapidly growing and presents significant opportunities for businesses with the right capabilities, innovative products and services. This programme aims to support businesses (in particular those in AEM and Digital) to diversify into this growing sector. Through developing a cluster of local businesses with the right potential, the programme will provide a number of fully funded workshops & networking events to:

  • Hear first-hand case evidence from customers and suppliers about their defence journey

China: 1:1 meetings available in person to discuss your prospects


Meilin is bringing in some Chinese Agritech buyers to an Agricultural Show in Inverness, and writes, “The Chinese AgriTech market had total revenues of $1,603.6 million in 2022, representing a compound annual growth rate of 13% between 2017 and 2022. A Chinese delegation of about eight Chinese AgriTec companies is visiting the UK at the w/c 17th September to attend the A3 Scotland event in Inverness and visit several other UK cities to exchange and find the UK partners of good technology and device suppliers. The Chinese companies are large and medium sized in China, covering different sub-sectors, including animal farming, crop and vegetable planting, plant breeding, digital tech, machineries, etc.”

In addition, Meilin is offering 1:1 in person meetings to companies who would like an in depth discussion on the potential for their company in China between 23-25 September. Potential venues are London/ Birmingham and Bristol according to company location. There are also plans to run a virtual roundtable in early Autumn for companies who are interested in hearing about agri-tech in China, but perhaps have not reached the stage of requesting a 1:1 in-depth meeting.
