Exmouth seawall repairs to begin in March

image

Contractors will work on Saturdays to ensure the work is completed by the summer tourist season

Works to repair Exmouth’s seawall, after it was damaged by storms last Autumn, is set to begin this month – with an expected completion date in late May – weather permitting.

Original plans, costing an estimated £1.1million in total, looked to start work in early 2024 but were delayed when surveyors reported worse than estimated ground conditions which meant further funding was needed.

Work to secure the cliff at Seaton's West Walk underway

image

A large tension crack has been identified in the cliff, meaning that the earth around it must be removed. Whilst the promenade has been cleared the area is an imminent risk for falling debris and the crack will require an alternative method of removal which we are currently working on. Therefore for the time being we ask that the public must stay away from the area.

image

Left to right: Cathy, Vicky, and Jay

Today (Friday 8 March) is International Women's Day, and East Devon District Council is shining a spotlight on inspirational members of staff and their thoughts on how everyone can promote equality.

Women and girls should be encouraged to consider construction as a career path, as there are so many more roles to it, says Cathy, a building control surveyor.

Cathy's story

Offering reassurance when someone’s child is sick, and recognising how important bringing up the next generation is, is one of the greatest gifts you can give mums in the workplace, says engineering assistant, Vicky.

Vicky's story

Being able to stay calm and having a good, cheery attitude is important in my job, says Jay.
