Help shape the future of East Devon's town centres in the Local Plan consultation online at eastdevon.gov.uk/local-plan [
] before 5pm on Thursday 27 June 2024.
The wording that will inform planning decisions for town centres, as well as the boundaries of the district's Town Centre Areas and Primary Shopping Areas (apart from Cranbrook, which has a separate plan [
]), are being consulted on by East Devon District Council (EDDC).

Learn how to float following these five simple steps:
* Tilt your head back, submerging your ears.
* Relax and try to control your breathing.
* Move your hands to help you stay afloat.
* Your legs may sink but that’s OK – everyone floats differently.
* Spread your arms and legs to improve your stability.
It's the Royal Life Saving Society’s Drowning Prevention Week [
] and people are being encouraged to practice how to float in a safe environment. It’s a lifesaving skill and having the confidence to float in a life-or-death situation could make all the difference.

Exmouth's free Pride festival returns on Saturday [
], 22 June, from 11am to 6.30pm, at Manor Gardens. There's lots planned including live music, workshops, drag performances, a dog competition, and more.

Pixies to be captured by Ottery bellringers

Ottery St Mary was once occupied by Pixies. The noise of church bells was unbearable to the pixies, so in 1454 they invaded the town, capturing all the bell ringers and imprisoning them in a cave by the river, known as Pixie's Parlour.
Each year this legend is celebrated [
] on the Saturday nearest to midsummer. Celebrations begin in the early afternoon on Saturday 22 June, with a fete of stalls and entertainment at the Land of Canaan. At around 6.30pm the Pixies' Revenge will take place in the square.

Ann Nolan's work, featured above, won the 2023 South West Art Summer School competition, and is on display until Monday 22 July [
]. The artwork depicts the tranquillity of the River Axe looking towards Seaton Wetlands. It captures the peacefulness of nature that characterises so many scenes along the East Devon coast.
