Doncaster named Tree City of The World!
Doncaster has been named a Tree City of the World, following recognition acknowledging the commitment made across Doncaster to plant new trees.
Nearly 200,000 trees have been planted in Doncaster since 2021! This has helped create new woodlands and reduce local emissions which will benefit the environment and air quality.
Our city is one of only 200 cities across the world to be given this title.
Young online safety campaigners recognised by the City of Doncaster Council
School children from Doncaster have found their own way to share vital online safety messaging with their peers, thanks to a new campaign in the city.
Doncaster Safety Net is a year-long campaign supported by Doncaster Children’s Safeguarding Partnership, the NSPCC and South Yorkshire Police aimed at helping children and young people across the city stay safer online.
More than 4,600 online child abuse image crimes have been recorded by South Yorkshire Police in the last five years, so empowering children with the knowledge and confidence to recognise and speak up about abuse is vital.
To find out more about online safety, go to the online safety hub on the NSPCC website:
Celebrating Sir Nigel Gresley
On 23 April 1924, the British Empire Exhibition opened at Wembley Stadium and included Doncaster’s own Flying Scotsman, the world famous locomotive, as one of the star exhibits.
Now, 100 years on, a new exhibition is open at Danum Gallery, Library and Museum called ‘Gresley - Genius of Steam & Speed’. It celebrates the achievements of locomotive designer Sir Nigel Gresley and the unsung heroes that worked alongside him to create Flying Scotsman.
This free exhibition runs from 23 April – 21 September 2024 and is a wonderful, not-to-be missed opportunity to gain an insight into one of the most important engineers in the history of the railways, while celebrating the role that Doncaster and its people played in the construction of locomotives like Flying Scotsman.
Find out more about the exhibition here:
Dementia Information Day
A free Dementia Information Day is being held on Friday 17 May at the Eco Power Stadium from 10-4pm.
Part of Dementia Action Week, the day will include a chance to talk to and gain information from organisations who can provide support, help and services relating to Dementia.
If you, or somebody you support, would like to attend you can register through the events Facebook page, but don’t worry even if you don’t register you can still attend!

National Stalking Awareness Week
Some people think stalking is something that just happens to celebrities, but the reality is that it can happen to anyone. It can be in-person and/or carried out digitally.
It includes behaviour that has happened several times towards you by another person which causes you to feel alarmed or distressed or to fear that violence might be used against you.
Find out more information about what stalking is and how to get help on our website.
There is always help available.
