Danum Gallery, Library and Museum

Test your literature knowledge, learn about Divorce in Victorian Doncaster and discover the life of Sir Nigel Gresley... That's just a sample of the exciting events and exhibitions on offer at the Danum in April! 

Please note the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum is closed Friday 29 March to Monday 1 April inclusive for the Easter weekend. We will reopen as normal on Tuesday 2 April.


New Exhibitions

Gresley: Genius of Steam and Speed

23 April - 21 September

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the naming of Flying Scotsman, this exhibition brings together a range of objects and letters telling the story of the man who designed it, Sir Nigel Gresley.

There is also the opportunity to design your own locomotive and enter our competition!

The exhibition is a collaboration between The Trustees of the Doncaster Grammar School Railway Collection, The Gresley Society Trust, Heritage Doncaster, and XP Trust.

Jeremy Leigh: Realities - Inner Landscapes

27 April - 6 July

This exhibition of Jeremy Leigh’s paintings and drawings form a retrospective on his landscape works. The exhibition highlights his personal interests and practices over the past forty years as an artist.

Want to learn something new on your lunch break? 

Join us for our free lunchtime spotlights! These sessions are a fantastic wellbeing break in the middle of your day. The curators at the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum will be talking about some of the amazing objects in the collection. 

Thorne Charter | Doncaster Museum

Wednesday 3 April 1pm – 1.30pm

Find out more the fascinating Thorne Charter and the history of the area. 

Beware of Trains | Rail Heritage Centre

Tuesday 9 April 1pm – 1.30pm

Discover the social history behind some of the railway signs and notices on display in the Rail Heritage Centre.

Free. No booking required, just turn up.

Thursday 11 April, 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Test your knowledge at our library quiz. With five rounds on a range of literary subjects, our carefully chosen questions will have you scratching your head! Refreshments included.

Maximum team size 5 people.

Curator Talk: Divorce in Victorian Doncaster

Saturday 13 April, 2–3pm

If you think divorce is a modern phenomenon, then think again! Discover the real-life stories behind some of Doncaster’s first ever divorce cases from the 1860s onwards. Prepare to be amused, saddened, angered and surprised.

Join drag queen BiPolar Abdul at this special adult craft session. Chill out, create your own flower crown and indulge in some you time.
