[Derbyshire Dales Constituency - election results]
Labour's John Whitby has won the Derbyshire Dales Constituency, beating the previous incumbent, the Conservatives' Sarah Dines, into 2nd place by 350 votes.

[Focus on rural housing]
Affordable housing is essential to the sustainability of rural communities. It ensures people can afford to stay and work in their local area, which supports the rural economy. For example, research by the National Housing Federation shows that building just 10 affordable homes in a rural area generates £1.4m for the economy and supports an average of 26 jobs in the area. Providing additional housing that is safe, energy efficient and genuinely affordable to local residents is therefore a key priority in Derbyshire Dales.

[More applicants wanted to take advantage of home energy efficiency grants as criteria extended]
Derbyshire Dales District Council is working hard with partners to improve the energy efficiency of local off-gas private housing where residents are in fuel poverty.
The District Council has been awarded £1m of HUG2 government grant funding until March 2025 to improve the energy performance and heating systems of off-gas grid homes in the area.

[Matlock Bath Illuminations return in September]
Our Matlock Bath Illuminations return for a seven-week season from 7 September.
One of the region’s top autumn events will run every Saturday and Sunday until 27 October – 127 years since the Illuminations were first staged to celebrate Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee.

[Special meeting called to debate potential Traveller sites]
The Progressive Alliance leading Derbyshire Dales District Council is set to make progress this month in its determination to identify appropriate Traveller sites locally.
Now that the pre-election period is over, the District Council's cross-party Gypsy and Traveller Working Group will be putting forward a list of possible temporary Traveller sites for consideration by a special meeting of the Community & Environment Committee, called for Monday 22 July.
