Permanent fix for potholes

If you’re wondering how long our pothole repairs last, you’re not alone – it’s a question we get asked a lot.

image

We always look to make a permanent repair the first time around. But with the weather conditions we’ve experienced this winter creating an unprecedented amount of potholes, it’s not been possible to do this in every case – even with the extra gangs of roadworkers we’ve got working up and down the county.

That’s why we’re doing temporary safety repairs in some areas before a road, or part of it, is fully resurfaced.

And you may have already spotted areas where this is happening including:

  • Bolsover - full resurfacing work taking place in several locations in the town centre following temporary pothole repairs over the last few months.
  • Rowsley - temporary repairs carried out and resurfacing scheduled for later this month.
  • Buxton - temporary repairs on Fairfield Road with resurfacing due to take place this month and on Bath Road.

Keep an eye out for temporary signs we’re placing in some key locations to let you know permanent resurfacing works are coming.

Historic milestone for Derbyshire

Residents across the East Midlands are set to benefit from a £1.14 billion devolution deal which has been given the final go-ahead.

The East Midlands Combined County Authority is set to improve people’s lives through better housing, improved transport and new job opportunities.

Local people will get the opportunity to vote for the very first East Midlands Mayor on Thursday 2 May 2024.

More Safe Places

Shops, restaurants, businesses, public buildings and visitor attractions in Derbyshire are being encouraged to sign up to become a Safe Place for residents.

image

A Safe Place is somewhere where people can go if they need help, are lost or feel scared when out in the community.

Venues can help with things like calling family members or the emergency services and offering a safe area for people to wait until help arrives.

More than 230 venues are already part of the scheme which we run. Venues will be given a Safe Places sticker to display and they will be listed on the Safe Places app.

Free blood pressure checks

Did you know, one in three people could have high blood pressure but not realise it?

image

Left untreated, high blood pressure can increase your risk of developing a number of serious long-term health conditions, including coronary heart disease.

That’s why our Live Life Better Derbyshire team are carrying out free blood pressure checks across the county over the coming months.

Since April 2023 the Live Life Better Derbyshire team has carried out 1,200 tests across the county and over 520 people were found to have high, or very high, readings. They have since been referred onto their GP or a pharmacy for further tests.

So if you are aged between 40 and 75 when why not come along and get tested for free.

Alongside the blood pressure checks, the team also offers information about our free healthy lifestyle services.
