What happens if you are approved?

Thank you for signing up to our bulletins, in this, our final information bulletin we talk about what happens once you are approved.

If you are successful in getting approved (YAY! Welcome to the team!). You will need to sign the foster carer agreement and foster carer charter and your local fostering support worker will be in touch with your welcome pack that will include:

  • a copy of the Foster Carer Handbook
  • an ID card showing that you are a Derbyshire foster carer
  • equipment as required
  • information about incentives - free leisure, events, IT grant scheme
  • a copy of the financial handbook
  • training information

Becoming an approved foster carer is just the start and you won’t be alone! We’ll be there to support you and will link you with an experienced foster carer who will guide you in your first year.

Networks can also play a vital role in supporting you and we’ll invite you to attend the foster carer induction evening and organise training (including first aid) and connect you with local support groups.

And of course we’ll arrange your first placement and you’ll begin your fostering journey.

Becoming a foster carer can be one of the most rewarding and life enriching experiences.

Thank you for taking the time to read our bulletins, and hopefully you now have everything you need to confidently start your journey as a foster carer.

As this is the last of our bulletins we just wanted to say thank you for your interest, hopefully you’ll choose to apply to be a foster carer and start on an exciting journey with us.

We’ll send you a quick questionnaire in the next couple of days so you can let us know how you’ve found this information which will help us to improve it.

Are you ready to join us?

If you've already made up your mind you can take the following actions:

I'm ready and I'd like to speak to someone.

You can fill in our fostering form, we'll then contact you in the next few days for a chat.
