This is a reminder that Cumberland has been selected by the Department for Education as one of the pilot areas for a scheme that is aimed at attracting new entrants to the early years sector.
Please find the application form here if you would like to apply to offer the £1000 incentive.
New recruits will receive a £1,000 bonus shortly after they start their first role in childcare, or if they return to a childcare role after a gap of at least six months. They can work full or part time, and must spend at least 70% of their time working directly with children.
The DfE are also encouraging you to use their recruitment and campaign resources to promote early years as a career:

Establishing healthy eating habits at a young age is important for long-term health. As early years practitioners you can help set solid foundations for children’s future health by providing them with nutritious food in your settings.
Help for Early Years Providers has added new content including videos to help you fulfil the requirement to provide healthy, balanced and nutritious food for the children in your care. The content has been developed by The Department for Education in collaboration with the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) and Anaphylaxis UK

Since the summer of 2020 the Department for Education (DfE) has conducted a series of “Pulse” Surveys designed to capture evidence about the childcare and early years sector. This report outlines findings from the seventh wave of the research, which was carried out in November 2023. Eight key topics were asked on the survey. These were questions relating to the early years’ workforce, funding, capacity, and staff:child ratios. The survey also looked at space requirements, experiences of looking after children with SEND, initial teacher training and experiences of childminders.
