Childcare when a child becomes 3-years-old
The DfE have issued the following clarification in response to queries from Parents/Carers of 2 year old when their child turns 3:
Children are able to access the universal 15 hours from the term after the child’s third birthday through to when they start school.
If the child is accessing the 15 hours entitlement for working parents of 2-year-olds and the parent remains eligible, the parent will automatically be moved onto 30 hours (Universal 15 hours + 15 hours for working parents) from the term after the child turns 3. They just need to keep reconfirming their code as normal and it will become usable to claim 30 hours (the actual code remains the same).
If the child is accessing the early education and childcare entitlement for families of 2-year-olds who receive certain benefits through their local authority, then they will be able to access the universal entitlement from the term after the child turns 3, which means in practice that they will continue to receive 15 hours of childcare.

Health Visiting/Healthy Child Programme – your views are needed to help shape the future
Health Visiting
Cumberland Council is recommissioning the 0-19 Health Child Programme and we are really keen to have the views of parents, carers, and those involved with children in professional roles. This includes the Health Visiting Service.
We would be especially grateful if you would share the link below with your teams and with parents and carers so that they have a full opportunity to contribute and shape services.

Reminder for voters on photo ID
Voter ID
We’ve been reminding voters to prepare ahead of the UK Parliamentary General Election taking place on Thursday 4 July.
For the first time, voters will need to show photographic ID to vote in a UK Parliamentary General Election. Residents are being advised to make sure they are ready to vote by checking they have an accepted form of ID.
Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK, EEA or Commonwealth drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass or an Oyster 60+ card. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Disposing of batteries correctly
We're also urging residents to dispose of batteries responsibly and refrain from placing them in regular household waste bins.
Following last week’s incident involving a refuse vehicle catching fire in Carlisle, we have been emphasising the importance of proper battery disposal for all households.
Batteries, commonly found in everyday items like toothbrushes, toys, phones, e-cigarettes, and laptops—including rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries—must be handled with care because of their potential to cause fires or explosions if damaged.
To ensure safety and environmental protection, the council advises residents to use designated battery recycling bins available at Household Waste Recycling Centres [
] throughout Cumberland and most supermarkets across the council area.
If anyone wants to find their nearest battery collection point please go to the Recycle More website. [
