The Early Years Team are fully committed to educating ourselves about racism and supporting the sector to learn what it means to be anti-racist – this includes helping children to understand what racism is and the impact that it has on others.
It is a duty of the Equality Act 2010 to ‘foster good relations between persons who share a protected characteristic and persons who do not share it’. Race, religion and belief are some of the protected characteristics that this refers to.
Here are some resources that can help us to learn more about tackling racism as well as developing anti-discriminatory practice:

We would also like to re-share this guide on Ramadan. Although Ramadan does not take place until February next year, the guide contains lots of useful information on why it is important to include learning about Islam in the early years – Ramadan Guide.pdf
Please also consider joining our half day training with Anti-racist Cumbria in September. Details can be found on SLA online - Cumberland Education Services

‘Do something BIG, work with small children’ – the Government’s Early Years Recruitment campaign has re-started in August. It highlights the huge difference early years educators make to young children and how rewarding working in the sector can be.
The campaign directs potential applicants to the Department of Work and Pensions Find a Job vacancy platform so that they can look for early years and childcare roles in their local area.
To support the campaign, early years providers are encouraged to upload as many early years vacancies as possible to Find a Job - Find a job (dwp.gov.uk) Providers should use the term ‘early years’ in the title of job adverts and select ‘Education jobs’ for the job category.

Plans are underway across our region to improve the health of women and girls.
Working with Healthwatch organisations, the BIG conversation is being kick-started with a survey to find out what matters to women and girls across our region when it comes to their health
The views heard as part of the BIG Conversation will directly feed into plans for the women's health in the region.
It's quick and easy to do. It will only take 10 minutes of your time
