Cumbria Fostering is asking members of the LGBT community to consider whether they could change the life of vulnerable children during LGBT+ Adoption & Fostering Week, which returns next week.
The annual awareness week, which runs from March 4 to 10, is organised by charity New Family Social, the UK’s peer-support charity for LGBTQ+ adopters, foster carers and special guardians. Cumbrian Fostering is one of 120 fostering and adoption agencies nationwide, which is supporting the campaign by urging members of the LGBTQ community to find out more about fostering at our upcoming events.
* *Attend an upcoming event:**
Wherever you are on your fostering journey, our events next week offer those thinking about fostering the opportunity to hear from experienced foster carers and to speak to our friendly team. No need to book, just come along:
* *Monday 4 March –* visit our information stand at Kendal Library from 12pm to 2pm
* *Friday 8 March –* come along to our drop in at Costa Coffee in Whitehaven’s Market Square from 12pm to 2pm
*Cllr Emma Williamson, Executive member for Children and Family Wellbeing,
said: **“Cumbria Fostering service is proud to support LGBTQ+ Adoption & Fostering Week again this year and* *we* hope that by doing so, we can reach even more people across the county who can join our fantastic team of foster carers and help give vulnerable children and young people the best start in life.”
*Cllr Sue Sanderson, Cabinet member Children’s Services Education and skills, said*: “We know from experience that same sex couples can be excellent foster carers and have so much to offer children who need a loving and caring home.
“Our events next week offer a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the excellent training and support we offer and to hear from our carers who will tell you what it was like for them to foster and will also be happy to answer your questions.”
