July 2024
imageWelcome to the July edition of Cotswold Roundup! The Leader, Cllr Joe Harris, is away this week, so this edition is coming from me.

Like most people, I am looking forward to the summer holidays, although I do appreciate that it can be a difficult time for some families, especially those who are in receipt of free school meals during term time, due to the added expense of having to provide meals at home. If your children are eligible for free school meals, have a look at the free offer for families by visiting the Cotswold Holiday and Food Programme webpage.

Many residents are concerned about sewage pollution in our rivers and waterways. Following on from a Council motion in 2023, we have been meeting regularly with water companies, the Environment Agency and local environmental groups in an effort to do whatever we can to stop this. This led to us hosting our first "Sewage Summit" on the 8th July. The event was really well attended, with presentions during the morning and a Q&A session in the afternoon, giving attendees the chance to ask a panel of experts questions on sewage pollution. You can see the recording of the Q&A on the Sewage Summit webpage.

Kind regards,

Cllr Lisa Spivey

Sewage Summit

On Monday 8 July, we hosted our very own Sewage Summit at the Corinium Museum in Cirencester.

The event gathered environmental activists, water companies, and other agencies to discuss the root causes of sewage pollution in our district and to explore effective and practical solutions to address it.

Free activities for children this summer

Could you help with our fight against fly-tipping?
image

We’re recruiting volunteer ‘Fly-tipping Guardians’ to help us reduce environmental crime in our beautiful district. Fly-tipping is the dumping of waste illegally and continues to be a problem in our rural district.

Fly-tipping not only causes significant blight to our beautiful countryside, but also poses serious environmental hazards and endangers local wildlife.

Thank you to everyone who came to see us at our Active Cotswold Roadshow!
image

We’ve just finished touring across the district with our Active Cotswold Roadshow. Over the last few months, we’ve been going all over the district from Tetbury to Chipping Campden.

It’s been great to have so many insightful conversations with residents to find out about their health and wellbeing needs and how we can support them.

Town and Parish Forum
image

On 16 July we hosted another one of our Town and Parish forums, where we invited local councillors from across the district to discuss local issues and see how we can work together to deliver for our residents.

The theme of this particular forum was 'working in partnership to support the health and wellbeing of residents'.

Attendees learned about the ongoing and upcoming activities in Bourton-on-the-Water and Tetbury, as well as hearing from 'Working for Wellbeing', who cover Fairford, Lechlade, and Kempsford.

There’s still time to sign up for this year’s garden waste service
image

We’re reminding residents that if they would like us to collect their garden waste from the kerbside there’s still time to join this year’s service.

Use the garden waste service for grass cuttings, non-invasive weeds and hedge cuttings, plus excess leaves and windfall fruit later in the year.
