May 2024
imageWelcome to the May edition of Cotswold Roundup. The big news this month is the Government calling a general election for 4 July. Check out the key dates below to make sure you're prepare to have your voice heard!

The Active Cotswold Roadshow is continuing across the district with our officers getting out and about speaking to you and offering health and wellbeing advice. They are touring with the NHS bus where you have the chance to check your blood pressure for free. It's definitely worth popping along! You can see the dates for the roadshow below.

You may have noticed some work taking place at Cirencester Leisure Centre, the centre is undergoing major refurbishment to improve user experience and is due for completion at the end of summer. We continue to invest in all of our leisure centres through our district wide leisure contract with Freedom Leisure, which allows us to balance services which require subsidy with those which generate a surplus. Using this approach we continue to support the centres in Cirencester, Bourton-on-the-Water and Chipping Campden.

I'm pleased to say we're now offering monthly permits in our Whiteway Car Park in Cirencester. After consulting with local businesses, we believe this change will support residents and business with a more manageable payment option.

On the topic of parking, we have recently installed EV charging points in our Trinity Road office car park. These are open for residents and visitors to use, as well as staff and councillors. Not everyone with an electric vehicle will have access to off street parking, so it's important for us to provide these chargers to help reach our net-zero target as a district.

The next round of Crowdfund Cotswold projects have been announced. We have six live projects that need your backing! You can find out more about the projects below.

Finally, it was brilliant to be shown round the old House of Fraser building in Cirencester by The Grace Network and see the work that has been taking place there to turn it into a social enterprise hub. We have supported this project through the Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Growing up in Cirencester, I have many memories of visiting the House of Fraser with my mum and I'm so pleased to see it coming back to life! This is a really exciting project, and will be bringing new jobs to the area too! Keep an eye on our social media to find out when it will be open to the public.

Kind regards,
