Volunteers from local cub and beavers group help with tree planting project at Malpas farm
**Local community join together to plant new woodland on Cheshire farm**
Volunteers, including residents and a local cubs and beaver group, have been helping to plant several sections of new woodland on a farm near Malpas, Cheshire. The community planting event was organised by farming advisors Elm Associates and The Mersey Forest, who have supported the landowner to plant over 6,000 trees on the site, funded through the national Trees for Climate programme.

Green Public Service Award
***Council wins the Green Public Service award at the Public Sector Transformation Awards***
Cheshire West and Chester Council has won the Green Public Service award at the iESE Public Sector Transformation Awards, in acknowledgement of the Council’s support to the world’s first net zero industrial cluster being developed in Ellesmere Port. The area is aiming to be the UK’s first low carbon industrial cluster by 2030, and the world’s first net zero industrial area by 2045.

*Have your say on the Cheshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy before 31 March*
There is still time to have your say on the development of the Cheshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy, which is being developed in partnership with neighbouring local authorities and partners. You can play your part in creating this blueprint for nature by sharing how nature matters to you, and what actions you think could be taken to help wildlife across Cheshire, before Sunday, 31 March. Alongside completing the survey, you can also make a pledge for nature on the interactive map.

**Watch Six Inches of Soil documentary film at Chester Picturehouse**
Picturehouse Green Screen presents the documentary film, Six Inches of Soil, at Chester Picturehouse with a live panel conversation following the film. The film tells the inspiring story of young, British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food, in order to heal the soil, our health and provide for local communities.

***Home Upgrade Grant – change to eligibility criteria***
The income threshold for the Home Upgrade Grant scheme is being raised from £31,000 to £36,000 on 2 April 2024.
If you live in a home which is not heated by mains gas, with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of Band D-G and have a combined annual household income of £36,000 gross or less, you may be eligible for a fully funded Home Upgrade Grant to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

***Cheshire West Crowd launches a new funding round***
Cheshire West and Chester Council is looking to support local projects through the Community Innovation Fund on the Cheshire West Crowd, helping create a stronger future where we all play our part in thriving, caring and sustainable communities. There are two Council funding pots during this latest funding round – the Community Innovation Fund worth £166,902 and the Climate Change Emergency Fund worth £60,000.

***Family garage in Kingsley wins £5,000 sustainability award**
*
A family garage near Frodsham has been recognised as a leader amongst independent workshops who are moving towards a more sustainable business model. TotalEnergies Marketing UK has announced that Mill Lane Garage in Kingsley has been named the winner of its inaugural Fit for the Future award. The garage impressed the panel with its investment in solar panels and the work they have done with The Mersey Forest to plant 4,000 trees on land adjacent to the garage.

*Storyhouse to enhance sustainability with funding from Theatres Trust and the Wolfson Foundation*
Storyhouse in Chester has announced it has secured funding from Theatres Trust Theatre Improvement Scheme, in collaboration with the Wolfson Foundation, to bolster its commitment to sustainability. The funding will be utilized to expand the theatre's solar energy infrastructure by installing additional solar panels on its roof, helping to reduce the organisation’s energy consumption and enhancing operational sustainability.

Earth Hour 2024
*Get set for *Earth Hour – Saturday, 23 March 2024**
At 8.30pm local time on Saturday, 23 March, millions of people around the world will come together to take part in Earth Hour, a symbolic event, organised by the World Wildlife Fund, that encourages individuals, communities and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour. The Council will be turning off lighting on several buildings and structures across the area including, Eastgate Clock in Chester. It is a reminder that urgent action is needed to address the climate and nature emergencies and provides a moment for people and businesses to demonstrate their commitment to reducing energy use, combating the harmful effects of carbon emissions and protecting nature.
