Show the air you care
Air quality across the borough is generally very good, but there are a few small areas - often where traffic is heavier - where there are concerns. We are addressing these through our air quality management programme.
While emissions from vehicles are a significant contributor to air pollution within Cheshire East, they are not the only contributing factor. Other factors include domestic, industrial and agricultural activities. Our air quality strategy sets out our approach to all of these emission sources.
We are reviewing this strategy - and would like your view on the proposed draft. You can read the full details on our website [
], or go straight to the consultation, *which will remain open until Friday 17 May*, on the link below.

Middlewich Eastern Bypass
CEC logo
We are seeking urgent discussions with Government following a further delay to approving the Middlewich Eastern Bypass.
In October 2023, we submitted a detailed business case to Government for final sign off, which included details of developer contributions and a value for money case for the scheme - which clearly demonstrated a positive return on investment.
We had originally anticipated a decision on the funding in December last year and were then told it would not be until the new year.
Last week, the Government requested more information before it will allow the project to proceed to construction.

We want to hear from you!
You can take part in the below consultations. Your thoughts will help to shape the future of Cheshire East.

Air quality strategy consultation
We published an air quality strategy in 2011, which was subsequently reviewed and updated in 2018. The aim of the strategy is to support the achievement of the national air quality objectives and to ensure air quality is considered within a wide range of local government and regional planning frameworks. It aims to drive greater improvements in air quality at the local level and is reviewed on a five-yearly basis.
Due to the changes in legislation, plus the current strategy being more than five years old, we are undertaking a review of the strategy and would like your views on the proposed air quality strategy for 2024 to 2029.

New Local Plan issues paper
We are consulting on an issues paper as the first important step in producing a new local plan. This sets out a number of issues that we think the new Local Plan should consider. The consultation provides an opportunity to tell us what issues you think the plan should address and how it can help tackle local priorities.
