Emperor dragonfly laying eggs on pond vegetation
Ranger Events - August 2024
As I write this email the sun is beating down and the butterflies and dragonflies are on the wing.
Bollin Valley Partnership Ranger Nik recently captured a photo of an Emperor dragonfly as it was ovipositing (laying eggs) on pond vegetation. There are around 3000 species of dragonfly in the world and they live for up to 5 years as larvae underwater, and then emerge as adults and will be on the wing for between 1 week and 8 weeks depending on the species.
Along with dragonflies there are plenty of butterflies to be seen at the moment, across our various countryside sites. From the *12th of July to the 4th of August* the national *Big Butterfly Count 2024 [
]* is taking place. Spend 15 minutes in a sunny spot and help gather vital data to save butterflies and moths. You can find out more about how you and your family can take place by visiting the *Big Butterfly Count website [
]*.
This coming month we have lots of great *holiday clubs [
] *running, plus opportunities to *combine yoga & poetry [
]*, try *climbing [
]* or *paddleboarding & kayaking [
]*, *meet the longhorn cattle [
]* or get hands on with a *conservation task in Macclesfield [
]* and lots more!
*Scroll right to the bottom of the email to see all of this month's _11_ events and get your tickets booked ASAP so you don't miss out!*
