]What's on at Chelmsford Museum
A big hello from Chelmsford Museum! We are hopping away into Easter and there’s plenty to see and do with us over the next few weeks.
Don’t forget, as we spring forward when the clocks change on Sunday, we will have new opening hours from Monday 1 April. Our summer hours will begin, meaning we’ll be open from 10am to 5pm every day.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Exhibitions
Restless Brilliance: The Story of J.A. Baker and the Peregrine.
*Restless Brilliance: The Story of J.A. Baker and The Peregrine – now open*
This month, we were delighted to open "Restless Brilliance", exploring the life and work of Chelmsford’s own nature writer, J.A. Baker.
His writing is based on walks and cycle rides around the Blackwater estuary, Danbury Hill and the Chelmsford area. Here he followed and studied peregrine falcons, condensing all his observations into the book "The Peregrine".
In this exhibition we explore Baker’s life, his love of nature and writing through the archive of his work held by the Albert Sloman Library, University of Essex. It is the first time that this archive has been on public display.

Nature Poetry Competition
*Easter Holidays*
This April, we have two creative activities to get involved with during the Easter holidays – both free and taking place in the Wells Suite on the first floor of the museum. Just drop-in, no need to book!
Make a Victorian inspired Easter Card. Victorians decorated their Easter Cards in images of nature, including bunnies, chicks, lambs, flowers, and trees. Create a collage or draw your nature themed Easter Card. Be inspired by the Museum's natural world display on the mezzanine and draw animals and flowers that you see around you.
Take part in our Protect Nature poetry competition, in collaboration with Essex Library Services. Alongside our Victorian Easter Card making in the Wells Suite, there will be books, hints and tips, templates, and inspiration to get you started on your poems, with some of resources available for you to take home. Complete your poem and submit it with an entry form to Chelmsford Museum or any Chelmsford library

The sessions are designed for those who are living with dementia to attend with their families, friends and loved ones. Other organisations may be in attendance that can help provide support and information.
Our next few sessions are on Monday 8 April, 13 May and 10 June.
