Love Parks day at Oaklands Park
Celebrate Chelmsford’s green spaces this summer with a *FREE* Love Parks event taking place in Oaklands Park on *Friday 26 July*! The event is part of the nationwide Love Parks Week, which runs from 24 July to 2 August 2024. Expect varied natured-themed activities including arts and crafts, storytelling, and willow weaving displays, plus wildlife societies will be in attendance to share more about their work. No booking is required – just turn up! Chelmsford Museum and The Hive Café will be open during the event but, please note *museum parking will not be available except for blue badge holders.*

Play in the Park
The council’s ever-popular Play in the Park returns for the summer holidays! This year *70 fun, FREE* activity sessions will be held across *19 community and parish venues* between *24 July and 23 August.* To mark the summer of sport, this year’s sessions will feature Olympic-themed team games and arts and crafts tables. There’ll also be inflatables, face painting, animal workshops, storytelling, crazy golf, skateboarding, and tennis – perfect for Wimbledon lovers! Attending the sessions is completely free, but *you do need to book* before arrival, as each venue has a limited capacity.

Summer family fun at Chelmsford Theatre
Chelmsford Theatre is ready to keep the family entertained this summer with some exciting characters visiting over the holidays! Horrible Histories: Rotten Royals kicks off the first week of
summer fun on* 31 July,* with a look at some of the revolting rulers and mad monarchs from Britain’s barmy past. On *4 August*, a tribute tour celebrates global phenomenon Miss Rachel in an interactive live show with lots of audience participation! Beloved author Julia Donaldson’s ‘Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book’ is also brought to life with puppetry and enchanting songs from *29-31 August.*

Hylands outdoor theatre: Peter Pan
The multi-award nominated Immersion Theatre invites you to soar away to Neverland as they bring their trademark energy to their latest magical musical. Expect all your favourite characters as Peter Pan arrives on* Wednesday 21 August:* the Darling Children, the Lost Boys, cheeky Tinkerbell, the hilarious Smee and of course, the infamous Captain Hook! Filled with catchy music, heaps of audience interaction, and a laugh-a-minute script, this musical of the boy who never grew up promises to have every member of the family hooked!

Discover at Chelmsford Theatre
This summer, Discover at Chelmsford Theatre is giving young people the chance to learn new skills and find out what goes on behind the scenes at a theatre. Workshops and masterclasses are available for children *aged 6 all the way up to 18*. Participants can discover more about musical theatre, singing, street dance, acting, puppetry, stage combat and audition techniques.

Chelmsford Museum nature sessions
Join Chelmsford Museum for nature-inspired activities to coincide with the current exhibition *Restless Brilliance: The Story of J.A. Baker and the Peregrine.* Each week of the holidays will be themed around a different activity. Children can try their hand at birdwatching and making origami birds in Birdwatcher Week; find out what an herbarium is and view real Victorian nature samples in Nature Week; or unwind with some drop-in arts and crafts sessions in Printing Week. Sessions vary from *free to £5 per child*. Certain sessions* need to be booked in advance.*

Picnic in the Park returns
Picnic in the Park is back for summer 2024! The *FREE* community-based event comes to Melbourne Park for the first week of the summer holidays from *Monday 29 July to Friday 2 August.* From glitter tattoo artists to inflatable bouncy castles, the activities will create a real festival feel for little ones. Party entertainer, Mr B, will provide magic shows and balloon modelling and this year, look out for a nerf battle arena and a mobile climbing wall! Food trucks and an ice cream van will also be on site, or you can bring your own picnic. Make sure you *book in advance*.

Open-air cinema and sing-alongs at Hylands Estate
Pack a picnic and enjoy open-air cinema against the stunning backdrop of Hylands House this *August* with Adventure Cinema. Family favourites include The Gruffalo and Stick Man, Sing, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. There’s also a Frozen sing-along, so you can immerse yourself in the Disney magic by singing along to your favourite tunes!
