Visit Chelmsford’s Local Plan exhibitions

The Local Plan will affect everyone who lives, works or studies in Chelmsford. What will it mean for you?

Options for Chelmsford’s future growth
The Local Plan will shape how Chelmsford develops in the next 20 years. We have to review Chelmsford’s Local Plan every five years, and this is what is happening now. When the revised plan is adopted in 2025/26, it will allocate land for housing, jobs, and community facilities until 2041. A public consultation on the draft Local Plan is taking place until 19 June 2024.
Councils are required to have a Local Plan to ensure that future growth happens sustainably, and development is properly planned. Without a Local Plan, development could still happen, but councils and local people would be less able to influence where homes are built, and it would be harder to require developers to include key infrastructure, like schools.
The ‘preferred options’ consultation is the second of three in this review process. We want as many Chelmsford residents as possible to have their say before the consultation ends in two weeks.
Visit our Chelmsford exhibition: 13–15 June
To help people respond to the consultation by 19 June 2024, a final round of in-person exhibitions detailing the Preferred Options document and how to take part in the consultation will be available to view at Chelmsford’s Civic Centre on *Thursday 13 June, Friday 14 June *and* Saturday 15 June 2024*.
These are the dates and times to choose from:
* Thursday 13 June 2024 6–8pm
* Friday 14 June 2024 1–3pm
* Saturday 15 June 2024 10am–12pm (with British Sign Language interpreter available)
The exhibitions will be at the Civic Centre, Duke Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1JE.
