Voter deadlines approaching
Key voter deadlines are coming up soon, so this weekend is a good time to check you’re ready for the general election on Thursday 4 July. If you aren’t registered to vote or something has changed since you last voted, *the deadline to register is midnight on Tuesday 18 June.*
Postal votes should be arriving soon and there’s still time to apply for one. *The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June* and you can do this online.
There are *three different parliamentary constituencies in the Chelmsford area*. If you live in the Chelmsford constituency, you’ll receive your poll card from us, with details of the polling station you’re assigned to. If you’re in the North West Essex or Maldon constituencies, your poll card will come from either Uttlesford District Council or Maldon District Council. Last chance to have your say on the Local Plan consultation
Chelmsford’s Local Plan consultation ends at *4pm on Wednesday 19 June*, so don’t forget to have your say before the deadline. The plan will shape how the district develops over the next 20 years and will affect every Chelmsford resident. You can comment on the 'Preferred Options' document online via the consultation portal, or by email, and there’s also a virtual exhibition with a summary of the proposals.

Stars join Essex anti-drink drive campaign for Euro 2024
Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas and former England goalkeeper David James MBE are fronting a *new campaign to reduce drink driving* in Essex during the Euros. "Euros Football Friend" has been launched by the Safer Essex Roads Partnership to reduce deaths and injuries on the county's roads by helping people plan safe journeys during the tournament.

Hylands welcomes the Essex Book Festival this Father’s Day
This *Sunday 16 June,* the Essex Book Festival and Hylands Estate present the perfect way to spend Father’s Day with a special day of music, food, and nature-themed author talks and activities. Hear from writers Mark Cocker, Andrew Millham, and Joanna Glen in a series of talks themed around birdwatching to coincide with Chelmsford Museum’s J.A. Baker exhibition.

Foodies Festival returns to Hylands this June
The UK’s biggest celebrity touring food and music festival – Foodies Festival – returns to Hylands Estate *21-23 June!* The three-day event features live cooking demonstrations from top chefs, music from chart-topping artists, and of course, fantastic food and drink. There’ll also be a fairground and children’s activities for families to enjoy.

Free NHS health checks at community leisure centres
Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre, Dovedale Sports Centre, and Riverside and South Woodham Ferrers leisure centres are offering free NHS health checks to eligible adults *aged 40 to 74. *This overall health check-up takes just* 20–**30 minutes* and can highlight the risk of developing health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, or kidney disease. Get your Essex Pride festival tickets
There’s still time to book your tickets for this year’s Essex Pride festival taking place in* Central Park* *next Saturday 22 June.* This year’s headliners, include Claire Richards, Jaymi Hensley and a Spice Girls tribute band. Peter and the Wolf at Chelmsford Cathedral
Prokofiev's musical fairy tale Peter and the Wolf comes to Chelmsford Cathedral on *Saturday 29 June, *with morning and afternoon performances. Introduce your little ones to the joys of classical music while storyteller Mike Dodsworth tells the tale of brave Peter, who encounters a cunning wolf in the forest near his home. The famous score has been creatively reimagined for the cathedral organ by organist Samuel Bristow.

Name a peregrine sculpture and win prizes
Two willow sculptures of peregrines are being created for Oaklands Park and we need your help to name them! The competition is to mark Chelmsford Museum’s ‘Restless Brilliance' exhibition and there are prizes for the two winners and goody bags for runners up.
