The days have sprung forward, and we can’t wait for lighter evenings and sunnier skies on their way in 2024!
In the meantime, come rain or shine, there’s always something to enjoy at our Open Estate Days. Whether it be arts and craft activities in the Banqueting Room, learning more about our history in the Library, or meeting our community of artists and designers in The Stables.
Here is what’s coming up on Sunday 21 April from 10am to 3pm.
Free Activities
This month, join us for the International Day of Creativity and Innovation! A perfect day to showcase and celebrate our resident community of creative people, who base themselves at The Stables. Visit the studios upstairs and downstairs, as well as the Artists Gift Shop at the Information Point to purchase something uniquely #MadeAtHylands.
At Hylands House, our social history exhibition will take place in the Library where you can find out more about the restoration of Hylands House in ‘Before & After’. Find out more about the innovative techniques used to restore and replicate the delicate features of the house you can see today.
We will have a volunteer on hand to take you on a guided tour of the ground floor of Hylands House. You can now enjoy these at 10am and 1pm.
April Activities
Join us in the Drawing Room for storytelling by Mike Dodsworth at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2pm.
In the Banqueting Room, we’ll be creating our own ‘Afternoon Tea’ out of paper and art supplies, inspired by the Vintage Afternoon Teas that take place throughout the year. If the weather is nice, you’ll also find lawn games out on the back lawn which you can access via the Banqueting Room or by walking around the outside of the house.

MarketApril market
Urban Food Fest are back, bringing together a fantastic selection of outdoor traders and vendors again for the street food and craft market outside of Hylands House.
Already confirmed for April: The Tipsy Bakery, Iced Gems, The Roasted Martini, Smoke BBQ, Temprd Chocolate, and the Coffee Brigade.
Enjoy the Hot Box DJ set outside in the market whilst you’re here.
The Stables
Our resident artists throw open their studio doors and welcome you to see into their working spaces – explore upstairs as well as downstairs!
Hot Box Live provide the tunes in The Stables courtyard. Join them for live music from 11am.
Find unique items #MadeAtHylands in the Artist's Shop and discover hidden gems in the Friends of Hylands House second hand bookshop.

Visit The Stables Information Point and pick up your handset to explore the Pleasure Gardens in a brand-new way! Our Hylands History & Gardens guided tour [
] will be available for you to hire or scan the QR code and listen along with our new tour about the Estate and how it came to be.
Keep an eye out for Hawthorn Heavy Horse carriage rides that start from the front of the House! Pay on the day and take a short ride on the Estate with a difference (weather and ground conditions dependent).
Our popular new café The Deli will be open at the Stables all day! Open daily from 8am to 4pm.

Afternoon TeaAfternoon Tea
Celebrate International Tea Day with us! There are still a few tables available for our Vintage Afternoon Tea taking place during our Open Estate Day, with sittings at 12pm and 2.30pm.
Enjoy scrumptious sandwiches and traditional treats with unlimited tea and coffee while overlooking the gorgeous, springtime Estate parkland.
