17 Green Flag Award wins for Chelmsford
Chelmsford's parks have been re-awarded Green Flag accreditation this year – an *international quality mark* for parks and green spaces.
*17 Green Flag Awards* have again been granted, which means that our district has *one of the highest numbers in the East of England!* We have also received *three Green Heritage accreditations* for our management and promotion of the historic features in Admirals Park, Hylands Park and Oaklands Park. Plus, a* Green Flag Community Award* given to the Friends of Marconi Ponds for their stellar work on the Marconi Ponds Local Nature Reserve site.
The awards are testament to the hard work and dedication of the city council’s parks team and parks volunteers that care for our green spaces for the enjoyment of residents, visitors, and wildlife alike. Take some time to visit Chelmsford’s parks this summer!

Celebrating Love Parks Week at Oaklands
Following Chelmsford's Green Flag Awards news, join us to celebrate Love Parks Week with a *FREE event* at Oaklands Park on *Friday 26 July!* Expect varied natured-themed activities including arts and crafts, storytelling, and willow weaving displays, plus wildlife societies will be in attendance to share more about their work.

Picnic in the Park is back
From* Monday **29 July to Friday 2 August* join us at *Melbourne Park* for free, fun activity sessions for children *aged 5-11*. Entertainment will include inflatables, face painting, a rock-climbing wall, a nerf battle arena, and lots more! Alongside the activities, Picnic in the Park provides *free lunches for children entitled to free school meals.*

Chelmsford Theatre joins Mercury Creatives programme as a partner hub
The Mercury Theatre has announced the return of their acclaimed mentoring programme Mercury Creatives. Chelmsford Theatre is a partner in the programme, which offers *free business support and mentoring* to early career businesses, professionals and freelancers in the arts industries across *Colchester, Chelmsford, Harlow, Tendring* and the wider Essex region. Applications are open to join the programme until *Friday 16 August.** *

Skills Festival for Chelmsford students
A few weeks ago, *more than 1,200 Year 8 pupils* from Chelmsford secondary schools attended a festival-style careers fair organised by Chelmsford City Council to learn more about their future work options. They took part in hands-on activities with *over 70* local businesses and organisations to get a practical taste of the different career paths available.

Hylands’ July Open Estate Day
*This Sunday* Hylands Estate is celebrating the upcoming* Olympic games* with a sports-themed Open Estate Day! The Dovedale Sports Centre team will be running a mini-Olympics on the back lawn, with winners receiving their very own special 3D-printed medals, while in the Terrace Room, kids can make their own Olympic torches.

Chelmsford Museum nominated for Essex Mums Award
Chelmsford Museum has been nominated in the Essex Mums Awards again! The venue is up for *Best Museum*, an accolade it has *won four times* in recent years! Other Chelmsford businesses up for an award include Ninja Warrior, Marsh Farm and Mace Playce. Voting is open until *31 August.** *

£20,000 grant for rural businesses and community groups
A grant scheme offering *up to £20,000* to rural businesses and community groups in Chelmsford has launched. The grant does not need to be repaid, and funding comes from the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF). Chelmsford City Council has *£300,000 to **allocate* for the 2024/25 period to projects that strengthen rural economies and communities. Applications for the scheme will close on *Friday 30 August*.

Have your say on National Grid consultation
There’s* a week left* to take part in a public consultation on National Grid’s proposals for a new 184km electricity transmission line that would pass through the district. The Norwich to Tilbury project is planned to connect new low carbon energy generation to the grid and feedback can be submitted up until *11:59pm on Friday 26 July 2024. *

A12 north and southbound closures coming up
From next week, some *A12 overnight closures* are planned to take place. These will affect the A12 *northbound* from *junction 12* (Brentwood) to *16* (Galleywood) and the A12 *southboun**d* from junction *16* (Galleywood) to *13* (Ingatestone) on selected dates between* 22 July** and 2 August*.

*2024 Real Ale & Cider Festival*
It’s the final day of the Chelmsford and Mid-Essex CAMRA Real Ale and Cider Festival in Admirals Park *this Saturday.*
Festivalgoers will have the chance to sample an impressive selection of ales and ciders with delicious food available from a range of vendors. There’s live music planned, and tickets include admission, a souvenir glass and a beer voucher.
