Chelmsford Theatre’s new season line-up announced
It might be one of the hottest weeks of the year, but Chelmsford Theatre’s autumn/winter season brochure has just landed, bringing a cool mix of shows to enjoy from *September to December*. From the Olivier Award-winning Pride and Prejudice*(*sort of), to this year’s panto Snow White, the upcoming season promises a chance for everyone to *discover something new*! *Pick a new play area design for John Shennan Field!*
The children’s play area in John Shennan Field is being replaced and you can help to pick the new design! A consultation is taking place on Facebook, where you can leave a comment selecting your favourite of three designs. Alternatively, you can vote by emailing your choice (1, 2, or 3) to parksrequests@chelmsford.gov.uk. *Voting closes at midday on Wednesday 14 August.* Please only vote once.

*Meadows and haymaking at Hylands Estate*
Following Hylands Estate’s Gold Green Tourism award earlier this year, find out more about how the parks team at the estate *supports biodiversity* through a grass meadows and haymaking scheme. ‘Spring meadows’ are hugely beneficial for ecosystems, increasing the diversity of wildflower, insect, and animal species, and when the meadows are cut, the hay crop is used as feed for the estate’s working horses.

*Grants available for rural businesses and community groups*
A grant scheme offering up to £20,000 to rural businesses and community groups is open for applications until *Friday 30 August*. The grant does not need to be repaid and funding comes from the Rural England Prosperity Fund. Chelmsford City Council has £300,000 to allocate to projects that strengthen rural economies and communities for the 2024/25 period.

*Waterhouse Lane Bridge works*
During August, essential maintenance will take place to preserve Waterhouse Lane Bridge, along with resurfacing work on Rainsford Lane and Waterhouse Lane. There’ll be a *full weekend closure of the bridge* starting at *9pm on Friday 9 August* and *overnight road closures* for road resurfacing works between *12 and 21 August*.

Spaces available for Play in the Park!
This summer's Play in the Park sessions are well under way, with hundreds of children already joining in the fun at community venues across *Chelmsford and South Woodham Ferrers*. There are plenty of spaces available, though some sessions have sold out, so please remember to cancel ahead of time if you've booked but can't make it.

*A*dditional SEND summer holiday activities available**
Extra spaces for holiday activities for children and young people of any age with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) have been made available this summer. The free activities, funded by Essex County Council, include *silent discos, Air Hop sessions and multi-sensory storytelling*. Activities taking place in the Chelmsford district are *running throughout August*. Spaces can be booked by contacting providers directly.

*August Climate Café with Save the Children*
The next Climate Café takes place at Chelmsford Museum next *Saturday 10 August*, from 10am. These new sessions offer a chance to learn more about sustainability and find out how you can *personally make a difference in your community*. You’ll meet other like-minded individuals who also want to take action for a better future. Spaces are free but should be booked in advance.

*Park and Ride to Broomfield Hospital*
A shuttle service to and from Chelmer Valley Park and Ride and Broomfield Hospital has returned. It’s being run by Essex County Council’s minibus fleet, Ugobus, with *standard Park and Ride ticket prices*. The service, which closed during the pandemic, will now run *every half-hour from 6:30am to 8:00pm, Monday to Friday*, to help patients, visitors and NHS staff get to the hospital.

*National Country Show Live at Hylands*
The annual National Country Show Live returns to Hylands Estate on *14 and 15 September*. There’ll be plenty of food, drink, craft and gift stalls to explore, as well as the grand arena hosting exhilarating displays and amazing animals. Early bird tickets are available at a discounted price until *Tuesday 13 August.*

*A12 final overnight closures to complete works next week*
Roadworks on the *A12 at Margaretting* are now in their final stages, with just a few overnight closures now needed to complete the remaining works. Overnight closures take place *until 5am on 8 August.* Check the National Highways website for more details, including information about diversions in place.
