New Deputy Leader for Chelmsford City Council announced
*Councillor Lynne Foster* has become the *new Deputy Leader of Chelmsford City Council*. Cllr Foster was chosen by the administration after Cllr Marie Goldman MP stood down as Deputy Leader after becoming the Member of Parliament for Chelmsford.
Cllr Foster, who leads the council's response to the national housing emergency as the Cabinet Member for a Fairer Chelmsford, brings many decades of housing sector experience to her role, which includes supporting residents who either find themselves homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Two new Cabinet roles have also been created. *Cllr Jennie Lardge becomes Cabinet Deputy for Cultural Services*, with responsibility for Chelmsford Theatre and Chelmsford Museum. *Cllr Joanne Hawkins* takes on the role of *Cabinet Deputy for Support Services.*

Family Fun Day at Chelmsford Market!
Join the Chelmsford Market team for a day of *family fun this Saturday* (10 August). The event will bring a whole host of free family entertainment to Market Square from *10am to 4pm*, including a teacups ride, soft play area and a treasure hunt! Meet your favourite characters with Essex Cosplayers, say hello to Riverside Leisure Centre's mascot, Pops the Penguin, and find out how you could win a Ninja air fryer with Love Your Chelmsford.

*Council supports new grassroots music festival*
Chelmsford’s dedicated grassroots music venue, Hot Box Live, is bringing a brand-new music festival to the city centre on *Friday 13 and Saturday 14 September*. Supported by Chelmsford City Council, Arts Council England, Essex County Council and Chelmsford For You, *Sounds Good Festival* will celebrate some of the most exciting emerging and established artists from across the UK.

*Rhys Thomas appointed Chelmsford Theatre Director*
Chelmsford Theatre has appointed Rhys Thomas as its new Theatre Director. Rhys has over* 25 years’ experience *in the theatre industry, most recently at East Herts Council, where he led BEAM, a new multi-purpose arts, theatre, cinema and culture venue. He joins the team during a highly successful period for the theatre, with more exciting things yet to come.

*Heritage Open Days return to Chelmsford*
Chelmsford Civic Society is set to host another series of free Heritage Open Days for Chelmsford from* 6–15 Septembe*r. Events have been booking up quickly, but tickets are still available for a Black History Walk; tours of Springfield’s Bronze Age enclosure; and a talk on the female agents of World War I. There'll also be a range of virtual events on their YouTube channel.

Chelmsford For You is bringing a brand-new podcast festival to Chelmsford. On *Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September*, the *Essex Podcast Festival 2024 *will feature Essex-inspired podcasts, ranging from sport to witchcraft, hosted in front of live audiences. *Waterhouse Lane Bridge works start this weekend*
A reminder that essential maintenance will start this weekend to preserve Waterhouse Lane Bridge, along with
resurfacing work on Rainsford Lane and Waterhouse Lane from next week. There’ll be a *full weekend closure of the bridge* starting at *9pm on Friday 9 August* and *overnight road closures* for road resurfacing works between *12 and 21 August*.
