We're seeking a parent representative for our children’s committee

Parent governors of all academy schools within Central Bedfordshire can apply

We have a space for one parent governor representative on our Children’s Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC), and we're seeking applications from parent governors of all academy schools within Central Bedfordshire.

Find out more and apply.

Joining the committee provides an opportunity to give a voice to parents across Central Bedfordshire, as it is one of four overview and scrutiny committees responsible for reviewing service delivery and performance. Representatives have the opportunity to help to deliver policies and make recommendations to the Council’s Executive.

Among other things, parent governors make the Council aware of the main education issues which concern other parents. They attend the meetings of the Children’s Services OSC - which meets during the day, roughly every eight weeks, usually at Priory House in Chicksands - to act as a non-political voice, and then feedback on any discussions and decisions made at the meetings to parents.

How to apply, and important information

Visit our website for a full role description and to apply.

Anyone wishing to apply will need to self-nominate by visiting our website.

Parent governors are eligible in any academy school phase (lower, primary, middle, secondary or upper).

The closing date for nominations is 4pm on Friday 22 March 2024.

If more than one candidate applies, an election will begin on Monday 25 March, running until 4pm on Monday 22 April. The successful candidate will be appointed until 30 April 2027.

Although the parent governor representatives are voluntary positions, they will receive a meeting allowance of £75 for up to four hours or £150 for more than four hours, together with travel expenses.
