What makes somewhere a great place to live? That’s what we’re asking as we begin a 10-week conversation that will start to shape our new Local Plan – a blueprint for growth in Central Bedfordshire.

Your voice matters

We want to hear from people of all ages, and across every town, village and community, about what is important to you and your families for the future of the area. We began the conversation by talking to your elected ward and town/parish councillors. Now it’s over to you!  

We’ve highlighted six themes as our starting point.  

• Access to outstanding new or improved green space and nature  

• Jobs that are easy to get to  

• High-quality, well-designed homes for every stage of life  

• Excellent transport options, including walking and cycling  

• Great local facilities such as roads, schools, shops, and parks  

• Respecting and enhancing the unique character of our towns and villages  

So, now it’s time to tell us what you think – your voice matters!

How important are our green spaces, and how can we keep them while creating new homes and jobs for the next generation? How best to preserve the unique character of our towns and villages, ensure wildlife flourishes, or create communities where families can thrive? 

And how can we do all of that while giving younger people the chance to buy first homes near family and friends, or for people downsizing to stay close to their roots? 

Effective planning allows us to control the way Central Bedfordshire evolves in the years ahead. We want to put YOU at the very heart of that process, ensuring that development brings the opportunity for the right facilities, services and roads, and new or improved green spaces.   

There will be many opportunities for you to have your say as our new Local Plan develops. But getting involved at this stage is crucial if you want to really help shape the future of where you live.
