Summer Reading Challenge


The Summer Reading Challenge is a FREE holiday activity for children and you can sign up in the library from Friday 19 July. It's all about reading for fun, aiming to improve children's reading skills and confidence. Children need to be a member of the library to join the challenge and read six books to complete the challenge.  On completion of the challenge they will be awarded a Marvellous Makers certificate and medal and will be entered into a lucky dip to win a £70 voucher to The Works, to buy arts, crafts and books.

Tuesday 30 July 2.30pm to 4pm: Gruffalo Birthday Party

Help us celebrate everyone’s favourite story with an afternoon of Guffalo fun.  Including professional storytelling and activities with Aaron from A Children’s Story. Suitable for children age 3+.

Tickets £3 (including party bag) – Booking essential just a few tickets left!


Wednesday 31 July 2pm: Book Folding

Come and upcycle an old book into a piece of art! Book your place and choose your design. Suitable for ages 8+ to adult.

Tickets £3.


Tuesday 6 August 3pm: Laura’s Story Laboratory

Join local author Laura Noakes for a fun workshop developing story ideas and building stories. Suitable for ages 5+

Tickets £3 – limited places so booking essential


Friday 9 August 10am & 11.15am: Little Artists at the Library - Sound Creatures

Can you draw what you hear? Listen to weird and wonderful sounds and music whilst you draw extraordinary creatures. All materials provided, just bring your imagination! Suitable for ages 4+

Tickets £3 (£1 for siblings) – places limited please book your time in advance


Wednesday 14 August 2.15pm & 3.30pm: Little Artists at the Library - Elmer Printing Workshop

Elmer is the inspiration for this colourful printing session for little artists, where we will play with Mono- printing techniques. All materials provided. Suitable for ages 5+. Please wear suitable clothing for messy play.

Friday 16 August 4.15pm: Teddy Bear Sleepover

Register your bear at 4.15pm for bedtime stories at 4.30pm.  Your bear will sleepover in the library and you can pick them up (and find out what they have been up to) on Saturday 17 August. The Library is open 9am to 4pm on Saturdays


Tuesday 20 August 10am & 11.15am: Little Artists at the Library – Wax-Resist Painting

Crayons become the Heroes in this session for little artists. Learn how to create beautiful paintings using a combination of wax and watercolour painting. All materials provided. Suitable for ages 5+. Please wear suitable clothing for messy play.

Drop in Crafts and Activities

Keep the kid busy at the library this Summer with free drop in activities or crafts every day. Look out for Lego sessions, hunts around the library, easy quilling, paper weaving and hedgehog book folding.  Put a joke in our jar for Tell-a-Joke day (16 August) and you could win a prize! Complete the Summer Reading challenge and glam-up you medal with our pens and gems.  Pick up a full list of all the activities we have at the Library.

Potton Library at Party on Potton

We will be joining in the fun at the park for Party on Potton

Saturday 24 August from 1pm

Drop in and say hello at the library stand and maybe pick up some goodies (please note the library will close at 1pm)

Sunday 25 August from 2.30pm

We will be back at Party on Potton with fun science from Sublime Science!
