Three Community Energy Groups now operating across Central Bedfordshire

Three Community Energy Groups have been successfully set up in Central Bedfordshire, thanks to funding support from the Council and the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The Community Energy Groups established across Central Bedfordshire are:

  1. Greensand Community Energy in the Ampthill/Flitwick area Greensand Community Energy
  2. Buzz Community Energy in the Leighton/Linslade area Buzz Community Energy
  3. River Ivel Community Energy in the Biggleswade/Potton/Sandy area

These organisations, all registered Community Benefit Societies, are run by volunteers dedicated to community renewable energy and energy-saving projects. Their goals include reducing reliance on existing power markets, lowering carbon footprints, and increasing knowledge about energy.

Visit the Central Bedfordshire Community Energy Network's website www.centralbedscenetwork.org.uk  for more detail on each group.

Volunteers needed

All three organisations are seeking volunteer Energy Champions to help them address the climate emergency and help local people save energy and money.

What is an Energy Champion and why volunteer?

An Energy Champion provides residents with energy advice to help lower their energy bills and save energy. This role offers a meaningful way to contribute to your community, helping to reduce carbon emissions and ensuring warmer, healthier homes for the next winter.

The three Community Energy Groups in mid-Bedfordshire are launching an Energy Champions Scheme, which includes advice clinics, events, and home visits. They are seeking individuals passionate about taking positive action against the climate emergency by offering independent advice on home energy savings.

Training and Support

Volunteers will receive a fully funded training program to gain the necessary knowledge and skills. They will also be supported by an Energy Champion Coordinator serving all the Community Energy Groups. Although Greensand Community Energy is coordinating the Energy Champions Scheme, volunteers will be paired with their local group.

These roles are voluntary with flexible time commitments. Additional volunteering opportunities are available to support trained Energy Champions.
