Celebrating World Book Night on 23 April
We invite you to be part of a nationwide event on Tuesday, 23 April, and spend an hour of reading from 7-8pm with World Book Night.
This is a yearly event that aims to inspire adults to read more. It’s not a competition, but a night when millions of readers across the country can join in reading simultaneously. So save #ReadingHour in your calendar.
Need reading suggestions? Explore the books for this edition (
) and enjoy the Quick Reads, short books and great stories by bestselling authors, written in an accessible and easy to read style. For more reading ideas, you can also use the book sorter. (

) to borrow books.
Whether you read a book, a magazine, a comic, or anything else, you can take part in this celebration of the written word.
You can also follow the social media channels and use the hashtag #WorldBookNight2024 and #ReadingHour to share your reading experiences and recommendations.

Chesham Library
We are happy to announce that Chesham Library has relocated to our temporary library at the White Hill Centre from the 18 March, after spending a few days packing boxes.
The library building is undergoing renovations, for about three months during spring to make the main library space more accessible, inclusive, and flexible, with spaces for community events and activities and a new ground floor study area.
Due to space constraints at the White Hill Centre, we are offering a limited selection of books and audio CDs; customers will be able to return items and make reservations as normal. Similarly, the temporary library is not able to provide public access computers, printing or study space or run any activities. If you need these facilities, please visit one of our other local libraries, the closest is Amersham Library, which is within the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre, Chiltern Ave, HP6 5AH, where our team there will be happy to assist you.

) offer a wealth of information, including online newspapers, magazines, books and audiobooks; you can also renew your items online (

Scam awareness free webinar
On Thursday, 18 April, some libraries will be streaming a free webinar about how to stay safe from scams, doorstep crime, and courier fraud. The online event will take place from 10am to 11.30am, and it is organised by Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards (
) in collaboration with Thames Valley Police.
The webinar is accessible to anyone who wants to join, either from their own device or from our public computers or Hublets (loanable tablets) in libraries.
If you or someone you know is interested, Aylebsury Library will be streaming the webinar. To reserve a place, please register online here (
) or speak to a staff member at the library.
Public computers at Marlow and Hazlemere libraries will be reserved for the webinar stream. You must book the computers beforehand and bring your own headphones or earphones to listen. So, get in touch with your preferred location. (

Bring your street alive with Play Streets
Play Streets sessions allow groups of neighbours to temporarily close off their road so that children can play safely in the street, creating a safe, imaginative space for children to get outside and enjoy. Everyone is welcome to join in – bring a cup of tea and enjoy socialising outside your home with your neighbours while the children play.
Is your road suitable?
Play Streets can only be hosted on residential streets (smaller roads and cul-de-sacs) - a main road, a road that has a bus route or one with a high daily traffic flow cannot be partially closed.

Buckinghamshire Council will support and guide you through setting up your very own Play Street as much as we can. You can find out more by accessing the official webpage.
The application process can take up to 8 weeks, so apply soon to hold your Play Street during the summer holidays.
We have activities and events for all ages. Join arts and crafts sessions, workshops, community talks, advice sessions, board games groups and many more.
