A fruitful partnership sees new community orchard planted in Chilwell

A fruitful partnership between Broxtowe Borough Council, Incredible Edible, Canopy 2050 and the 2nd Chilwell Scout Group will provide local people near Cator Lane Recreation Ground with a new community orchard.

The Mayor of Broxtowe, Councillor Teresa Cullen was joined by partners to plant four varieties of fruit trees on Friday 16 February 2024.

The new orchard comprises of thirteen fruit trees and includes apple, pear, plum and cherry which will provide a variety of fruits that can be harvested by residents throughout the growing season. The free fruit that will grow in the orchard will provide a helpful resource through the challenging cost-of-living crisis as it provides a locally grown source of food for the community.

Bramcote Crematorium Raises £14,000 For Local Charity

Bramcote Crematorium has raised £14,000 for a local bereavement charity thanks to its recycling scheme.

Once the metals, which range from metals used in coffins to orthopaedic implants, are received by Orthometals, they make a donation based on the value of these recycled metals to charities nominated by the Crematorium. The recycling process only takes place with full consent of the deceased’s family.

Consultation open for two emergency help points

The Council has opened a consultation for two emergency help points which would allow direct communication with the Council’s surveillance camera control room. The system would be available for people to use if they find themselves in difficulty or danger.

Notts voluntary groups to share more than £170,000 worth of grants to help benefit communities

Dozens of voluntary organisations and community groups are set to receive a share of £170,000 to help residents in most need. As part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Communities Fund scheme, two types of cost of living grants have been available to eligible groups who are:

  • Helping those who are struggling to buy nutritious food to help improve health and well-being and build resilience. 
  • In need of a contribution towards their own rising energy bills to help keep their welcoming and warm centres and halls open across the county.
