Garden waste subscription

image

It isn’t long now until the new Garden Waste season starts on 1 April 2024.

Letters have started to go out to householders with instructions on how to renew. The renewal process isn't automatic, so if you don't want to renew your subscription you won't be charged unexpectedly. If you would like to return your brown-lidded bin at the end of the garden waste season, get in touch at depot@broxtowe.gov.uk.

How much does it cost?

One brown-lidded bin - £43.00.

Any additional bins - £25.00.

If you are currently subscribed for the 2023/24 season, you will see your garden waste collections return to fortnightly in March.

We understand that the cost increase is more than last year and that this is not ideal. However, the costs associated with garden waste collections have also risen, so in order to maintain the service the subscription price has had to increase.

Benefits of the service:

  • Reduced trips to the local household waste and recycling centre (using less fuel) and no need for garden waste to be in your vehicle.
  • Convenient all year round garden waste removal, from your home.
  • Easy payments made online or through Freephone.
  • Peace of mind knowing your garden waste will be turned into compost and used again.

Residents currently subscribing to the 2023/24 season will see their garden waste collections return to fortnightly in March.

The quickest and easiest way to subscribe is online. You can learn more about the service on the website.

We've given away 800 Free Trees

image

November 2023 marked the return of the free trees giveaway! This time, 800 trees were available, including Elder, Rowan, Spindle and Silver Birch, which are all UK Native trees and have significant benefits to local biodiversity.

The trees have now been delivered to those that were successful with their application.

Residents that didn't secure a free tree online were given another chance last week when our Environment Team helped residents sign up to Green Rewards and claim a free tree at local supermarkets in Kimberley, Eastwood, Toton and Beeston.

We're proud to have delivered another 800 trees to our residents and local community groups, including Canopy 2050 and The Field, Strelley. Since 2019, we have given away 3,850 trees.

You can earn extra Green Rewards points for sending in a photo of yourself planting your tree! Simply sign up to Green Rewards on desktop or download the app in your app store to send in your photo.

Recycling? It's a walk in the spark!

image

Not sure what to do with your old electrical appliances? If they are broken and unfixable make sure to dispose of them responsibly.

Items which have a plug, use batteries, need charging or have the symbol of a crossed out wheelie bin on them cannot be disposed of in any of your bins. This is because they pose a fire risk in bins and in the bin lorries.

image

This is a health and safety hazard and could destroy a lot of good quality recyclables if you put electricals in your green-lidded recycling bins.

Instead you should take them to one of the recycling centres within the Borough.

If your item is still in good working condition, then you can donate to a charity shop. If it is broken but fixable, there are a few monthly repair cafes where local experts offer to fix almost any item.
