Get involved with parks across the Borough
Last chance to share ideas about Broxtowe’s parks
Don't miss this opportunity to help shape your local parks and make sure they achieve high standards.
Some of the sites we are asking about this year include:
- Hall Om Wong Open Space in Kimberley
- Alexandrina Plantation/Sandy Lane in Bramcote
- Inham Nook Recreation Ground in Chilwell
- Banks Road Open Space in Toton
The selection of parks in the survey is determined through a regular cycle which ensures all of the Council’s sites are surveyed over the course of three years.
The survey closes on 30 August 2024.
Bring your family to enjoy Bramcote Hills Park’s exciting new play area!
The play area was opened by the Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe and has been designed for children of all ages using resident feedback from the survey we ran last summer.
We were encouraged by the 73% of respondents who told us they would use the play area if it was improved. The specific improvements were also informed by the strong support for equipment serving a mixture of ages within the fenced area and dynamic items outside the fenced area, which we have now provided.
We also heard the 80% of respondents who said additional seating and picnic tables were needed and added this as well.
Community orchard maintenance at Cator Lane Recreation Ground, Chilwell
This community orchard at Cator Lane Recreation Ground was planted in February but due to the wet and warm weather we have experienced, the site was in need of some well deserved maintenance.
To help the fruit trees continue to thrive, Councillor Shaun Dannheimer worked alongside members of local community group ‘Incredible Edible’ to remove unwanted vegetation. Thank you all for your hard work and support.
The free apples, pears, plums and cherries that will grow in the orchard will provide a helpful resource through the challenging cost-of-living crisis as it provides a locally grown source of food for the community.
As they grow, the trees will also supply shade and habitat for animals and help store carbon dioxide, providing cleaner air quality, all whilst helping to mitigate against climate change.
If you would like to join a group to make friends and help care for the local environment, please contact a member of the Council’s Parks team at environment@broxtowe.gov.uk or reach out to Incredible Edible.

Where's Watson?
We hope you guessed it - last month Watson was at Hetley Pearson Recreation Ground, Beeston! But where is he now?
Watson met up with his friend Rosie at this local park, it has a play area, an area with goal posts, near the tramline and has an area where fruit trees are growing. If you're still not quite sure, it's name is somewhere in this bulletin.
Do you think you know where he is this time? Make sure to check back for the answer in the next Parks and Open Spaces bulletin.
If you like to visit local parks like Watson does, make sure to log the action on Green Rewards on desktop or through the app. You'll get a chance to win a £20 gift voucher from a selection of retailers in this month's draw!
