Awaab's Law Timeline Consultation
what will awaabs law be like for landlords
*The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities released its long-awaited consultation on Awaab’s Law on 9 January, 2024.*
Awaab’s Law which was introduced in the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023, followed the death of two year-old boy Awaab Ishak in December 2020 as a direct result of a severe respiratory condition due to prolonged exposure to mould within his home.
It is proposed that Awaab’s Law will consider the 29 health and safety hazards set out by the Housing Health and Safety Rating System. The consultation proposes that Awaab’s Law will define hazards as those that pose a significant risk to the health or safety of the actual resident of the dwelling.
The deadline for responses to the consultation is Tuesday 5 March 2024.

*If you find dampness within your home, the main causes may be condensation, rising damp, penetrating damp, plumbing faults or broken pipes.*
Condensation can occur in any room of a property, in cupboards, corners of rooms, or behind furniture where air movement is restricted. Condensation will usually occur on a cold surface.

Debt Awareness Week

They will enable you to have your say on what matters most to you, such as highlighting areas that may require improvement, ensure general areas of the Borough are kept tidy, fly tipping is removed and repairs are reported.

The Council has opened a consultation for two emergency help points which would allow direct communication with the Council’s surveillance camera control room. The system would be available for people to use if they find themselves in difficulty or danger.
