Tenancy Fraud

image

Subletting of Council Housing can lead to a criminal conviction and the loss of your home. If you believe a Council Home is being sublet in Broxtowe, please contact us on the details above.

Your tax money pays for fixing the damage caused by tenancy fraud. This could be the difference between heating your home for the weekend or not. You do not need to give us your details.

Tenancy fraud costs hundreds of thousands per year, and keeps people in housing need on the housing register for longer.

Tenancy fraud includes:

  • Renting out or subletting
  • Providing wrong information to get housing
  • Wrongly claiming a tenancy from someone who has died
  • Key selling
  • Abandonment and not using the property as a principle home

Tenancy cheats face losing their homes, prosecution and may lose the right to social housing in the future.

1 in 4 of us do not know our neighbours. Signs to look out for are people moving in & out regularly or empty/abandoned property.

For more information or to report contact the Tenancy Team on 01159173400 or tenancy@broxtowe.gov.uk

 National Tenants Conference 2024

image

The Engagement Team recently attended the Tpas National Tenants Conference with two of our involved tenants.

The tenants were able to choose workshops on topics such as complaints handling, rethinking repairs and digital engagement, as well as listening to panel sessions from representatives from the Regulator of Social Housing and the Housing Ombudsman.

If you would like to know more about topical issues in the Housing sector, please get involved! It is an exciting time in the Housing world, with lots of changes and improvements being implemented. We have range of engagement methods available to match tenants' areas of interest and their time commitment.

Engaged tenants are supported throughout their involvement and are able to access training to assist them in their role, at no cost to themselves.
