🚀 Second Ignite student start-up course launches
A group of Bournemouth University, Arts University Bournemouth and AECC University College students have been selected to take part in this 5 week programme where they will be learning all there is to know about what it takes to start and run a business.

The Programme is funded by BCP Council's Economic Development team through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and delivered by David Mutton from Evolve.

At the end of the course, eligible students who register their business will also be awarded a £250 grant and further mentoring to help get up and running.

🤝 Forged @ Foundry event
📅 29 February 2024 ⏰ 18:00 - 21:00 📍Foundry, Poole

Forged @ Foundry is a collaboration between The Foundry, Legal & General and Bournemouth University. Its goal is to inspire and reward the next generation of entrepreneurs through a series of inspirational talks and a Business Plan Challenge offering cash prizes.

Alongside these events, a Business Plan Challenge is being launched too. Aimed at celebrating and supporting the most exciting ideas, the prize fund consists of actual cash and an array of in-kind support too.

🎤 FinTech West - South Coast Showcase

On 31 January FinTech West ran the South Coast Showcase in the Fusion Building at Bournemouth University.

BCP Council Leader, Vikki Slade, spoke at the event. Her keynote was a refreshing, positive outlook on the importance of digital technologies and how they can bring great value to the region and help transform from traditional to modern industry and employment.
Photography, videography and motion graphics was produced by Worksity - a collaboration of talent from BU, Arts University Bournemouth and Bournemouth and Poole College.

🙌 Apprenticeships Unlocked a resounding success

Over 2,000 people attended Bournemouth and Poole College’s huge annual Apprenticeship Expo event at The Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth, on 8 February. Visitors spoke with 34 businesses such as Sunseeker, Kier and Yunex Traffic about the roles they have on offer, and received advice from college staff about how apprenticeships and other courses could help them build brilliant careers.
The event attracted school pupils from Years 9 to 13 as well as adult career-changers. Even some pupils aged just 11 were already thinking about their futures.

👩‍💻 ED Team visit FOUNDRY in Poole
The Economic Development (ED) team at BCP Council visited FOUNDRY in Poole for an exclusive preview and tour of the brand new co-working space that will soon be welcoming startup and established businesses, freelancers and networkers.
Adam Walker, founder, said: "FOUNDRY will be offering the Poole business community a platform to meet clients, contacts and build connections. Great to show the BCP ED team around and give them a sneak peak of our private offices, dedicated desks, meeting rooms and boutique members work lounge".

📢 Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) new CEO
Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) are pleased to announce that Captain Brian Murphy will be taking over as CEO of PHC from Jim Stewart on 1^st July 2023. Brian has been with the organisation since 2004. He was appointed as Harbour Master in 2008 and was given the extra responsibility of Marine & Port Director in 2018.
