✈️ New round of grant funding for exporting projects
A new round of grant funding for existing exporting businesses (primarily micro and SMEs) based in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is now open for applications.

The matched-funded support (£1,000 up to £5,000) is specifically for market visits to grow overseas trading. 

To be eligible, businesses must first register on the support scheme and complete the initial diagnostic survey process. 

The support is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. All applicants need to provide detailed proposals including milestones and expected outcomes.

The deadline to apply is 3 October 2024.

🤝 Fully funded HR support for your business
BCP Council's Economic Development team has secured an opportunity for local businesses to participate in a research project by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the Behavioural Insight Team (BIT).

The project will provide your business with fully funded HR support as a part of the research. The bespoke consultancy is valued at up to £800 and can transform your business by helping you:
  • hire the right people
  • reduce staff turnover
  • increase productivity
  • avoid costly legal non-compliance
The support will officially launch on 2 September 2024 but you can pre-register now. To apply your business must:
  • be a Small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) with 5 to 249 employees
  • have its sole or main place of business in Bournemouth, Christchurch, or Poole

🚀 Start a business with Ignite - now open for registrations
If you or someone you know are interested in starting a business, the Ignite programme is a free course to help start and support your business in the early stages.

The programme, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund is available exclusively to local residents in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Two courses for October and November 2024 are now open for registration. 

Delivered by David Mutton of Poole based Evolve, the course has successfully helped create new BCP based start-ups since its inception last year.

Content includes idea generation, marketing planning, accessing finance, and more. A free one-to-one session with the course leader and a grant of £250 is also available.

♻️ Support for business decarbonisation
Support is available to help local businesses reduce their carbon impact and make the necessary changes to implement their decarbonisation plans.

Businesses can gain free access to Climate Essentials, a carbon management platform, as well as match-funded grants of between £500 and £5,000 to use for decarbonisation projects.

Applicants will need to provide a copy of their decarbonisation plan, along with details of the project they require funding for.

Applications for grants will close on 3 October 2024.

📢 Knife Crime Awareness Campaign
BCP Council is working alongside multiple partner agencies including Dorset Police and the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner under the Safer BCP partnership, on a campaign that tackles knife crime head on.

This important campaign aims to raise awareness of knife crime, as well as the dangers and health implications of carrying a knife, educating young people through a series of events and activities from 16 to 28 September.

The campaign also aims to recognise and celebrate our young people, those who help to make Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole a great place to be.

👩‍💻 ED Team visit FOUNDRY in Poole
The Economic Development (ED) team at BCP Council visited FOUNDRY in Poole for an exclusive preview and tour of the brand new co-working space that will soon be welcoming startup and established businesses, freelancers and networkers.
Adam Walker, founder, said: "FOUNDRY will be offering the Poole business community a platform to meet clients, contacts and build connections. Great to show the BCP ED team around and give them a sneak peak of our private offices, dedicated desks, meeting rooms and boutique members work lounge".

Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) are pleased to announce that Captain Brian Murphy will be taking over as CEO of PHC from Jim Stewart on 1^st July 2023. Brian has been with the organisation since 2004. He was appointed as Harbour Master in 2008 and was given the extra responsibility of Marine & Port Director in 2018.
