80th Anniversary of D-Day commemorations
Events to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings took place across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole on Thursday 6 June. Wreaths were laid, beacons lit and a flotilla of boats in Poole Harbour took place in remembrance of those lost.
More events are planned on Saturday 8 June in Bournemouth:

* 5.30pm to 6pm – Procession from Westcliff Gardens to the bandstand
* 6.15pm to 6.25pm – Speech from the Mayor of Bournemouth and Chaplain
Our region played a pivotal role in the D-Day landings, the campaign to liberate Europe and defeat Nazi Germany, with Allied forces launching a combined naval, air and land assault on 6 June 1944. Find out more below.

👩🌾💚 Thank you to all our volunteers!
It's volunteers' week! And an opportunity for us to celebrate all our amazing volunteers and say thank you for the work they do giving up their time to benefit our community.
This week the volunteers at Highcliffe Castle have been highlighting their varied work - from guided tours which bring the castle's stories to life, looking after the castle archive, working in the shop and even restoration work.
Our conservation volunteers have also been working hard recently to remove invasive species from our nature reserves, as seen in the picture above where they are removing ragwort.
Find out more about the many volunteering opportunities in the BCP Council area. Volunteering gives you the chance to help out your local community, make a difference to other people's lives, and improve your mental and physical wellbeing.

Carers Week 2024 - putting carers on the map!
BCP Council’s carer support team is celebrating Carers Week with a range of activities and support for unpaid carers and the people they look after in our local community.
Carers Week (10 to 16 June) aims to raise awareness of carers in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The campaign will be putting carers on the map by highlighting the many and varied challenges they face and the important contribution they make to supporting those who rely on their help.
A carer can be someone of any age providing unpaid support to family or friends who could not manage without their help. Carers are typically family members, friends or neighbours who find themselves offering support which may build gradually over time or which happens suddenly after an unexpected illness.
A planned programme of events and activities across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole will be available for carers, raising awareness of the support available locally. These events include afternoon teas, information drop-in events and Bournemouth Symphonic Orchestra concert for carers. Find out more below.
